I really like the sound of this class - any tips or guides around for how to solo effectively? Thanks in advance!

Bunch of info about soloing in this thread, if you don't mind reading into a few posts. :smileywink:

http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=24&message.id=21745

I don't bother with the debuff mob bit, myself. If you root, watch your DOTs since the root has a chance to break on any damage, including DOT ticks. You're better off sticking to your heavy nuking spells that hit once. Hope this helps some.

If you have some spare AA points, the ward you can add to magi's shielding on the new tree will help you survive a little longer, at least long enough to get your roots back on normally, this has helped me tons with my soloing.Hope it helps a little

If you solo a lot i think choosing the single targets nukes for mastery helps a lot. Im new to the game myself, but my lvl27 warlock is having a lot less trouble soloing single mobs than all my friends at similar levels (guardian, trubadour etc). With the solo poison nuke at mastery II and freeze at mastery I (available at bargain rates on market) i can often kills stuff real quick. In combination with a root that takes most of the time (worth upgrading for resistability) normal solo mobs are real easy. Problem is of course that heroics even 7-8 levels below me are near impossible. I just cant do nothing against targets that survive long enough to actually hit back more than once or twice.

At level 18 I've all but given up playing my Warlock solo. He only gets an outing if there is a guild group in his level range. Way too slow soloing and the root isn't in any way trustworthy despite being upgraded to Adept III.

Still lots of fun in a group though - just wish we had more AoEs at that level as I seem to be totally out-damaged by other classes in single target fights.

Message Edited by Skargrim on 01-09-2007 05:17 AM

It does get a lot better. I had a rough time soloing for a couple of levels around 18. But since i gained lvl 24 or so it has been fairly easy (and getting easier). I thought it might get tougher again but so far its just been easier and easier. Just pick areas with solo mobs. I soloed most of Nektulous forest while i was at more or less same level as the mobs there (avoided heroics and other nasties though). Now i am lvl 33 and have soloed in Zek since lvl 31. As long as you take a bit of care not to get adds and avoid the "really annoying invisible (bugged) cats that see through invisibility and kill a warlock in 2 seconds" you will be fine.

At this level i actually level somewhat faster when im on a good solo run than i do in small groups. I can kill yellow mobs with one up arrow. Above that it gets a bit hairy.
Message Edited by Epictetus on 01-09-2007 12:59 AM

also, its not necessary by any means, but its helped me a great deal, is to try and complete the Peacock line in DoF. The final reward is a wand with ft14 and It has a really nice heal proc which has saved me innumerable times in long arduous fights. That extra healing has often tipped the scales in my favour. Also, as mentioned previously, the ward AAs on magi shielding helps enormously.
