<DIV>I have a problem with my warlock. He gets every spell at every level at least at adept 3 from my main or he has masters. so he does a great amount of damage even with his lvl 37.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>the problem i have is aggro: when i use absolution on master 2 i am surely to get the aggro of the encounter. i have tried to cast my encounter or ae spells differently. at the beginning, in the middle of the fight, at the end - the chance to get the aggro seems to be the same. so other tell me "use single nukes instead", but i wonder why you should take a warlock with you when his most powerfull skill - the encounter damage - should not be used? if you want to single nuke a mob a wizzard is the better choice. it would be like taking a defiler with you and telling him not to use wards, but only heals. that's not why you would take a defiler!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>even worse, my single nukes steal aggro very often, too. even my debuffs seem to raise the aggro too much and my de-aggro spell seems to be totally buggy (i am playing a lvl 70 warden, too, and hes deagrro spell works perfectly, the one of the warlock does not seem to have any effect).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>did soe have change the aggro with an lu? currently my warlock seems to be very limited. ok, i do a lot of damage in a group and can save my group when a whole encounter of mobs charge us, because with 3 spells i can do damage to every mob in the encounter. but i always risk to get my but kicked! and when this happens i have seen tanks who had lots of problems to get the aggro mobs off of me!</DIV>

<div></div><div></div>Sounds to me like you need to practice aggro management on single targets. Even with hate reducers, if you just cast all your big nukes, you can take aggro from some tanks with little effort. You need to adapt to what type of tank you are playing with, how good he is etc. Either that or the one's you've played with are just useless =) As for groups, again, depends on who is tanking. If it is a monk/bruiser then don't bother with aoe's, as you WILL draw aggro. On large group mobs, I sometimes go all out and accept the fact that i will draw aggro, and hope that we can burn them down in time before I die. Although you can aoe well and not take aggro, you just need to learn when you can. <span>:smileywink:</span> It's not a warlock exlusive thing though, all dps classes have to manage their aggro, it's the difference between a poor player and a decent player, and will vary depending on the group makeup and skill of the players. Also bear in mind that not every player has a higher level main with which to twink their characters, you'll often run into tanks with less than mastercrafted gear and adept1 taunts <span>:smileysurprised:</span>, you'll grab aggro from them even easier with all those adept3/masters. And I'm talking about pickup groups around 30-50's, and my experiences,  before the raid lot come over and tell me I'm completely wrong. <span>:smileytongue:</span> <div></div><p>Message Edited by wuzza on <span class="date_text">08-04-2006</span> <span class="time_text">06:16 AM</span></p><p>Message Edited by wuzza on <span class=date_text>08-04-2006</span> <span class=time_text>06:18 AM</span>

On single targets that have lots of HP's start out with your debuffs and DoT's first ... then move into the 3 bigger single nukes.  On multiple targets just wait a bit before casting anything.  Now that they've given us two encounter-wide non-nuke spells (the one curse line and the vulian line) you could even cast those to start.  Then follow with the nebula line (I forget what its called at that level).  I am always very cautious about casting the absolution line ... if there is a tank in your group with hate transfer - or you're grouped with a dirge or summat similar with some kind of de-aggro thing going on ... you should make sure it's on you.  Berserkers tend to make great tanks for warlocks bc they have both excellent damage output and some great taunt skills ... so I find that I will rarely gain aggro when a zerker  who knows what he is doing is the mt.  Basically it s a lot of trial and error to find out what your balance is going to be.  And yes - you will die and continue to die no matter what.  Nature of the class. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div>

<P>As you're finding out, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. Our damage to encounters comes at a stiff price. The other suggestions here are good--agro management is important. What really allows a Warlock to thrive, though, is a good group. I play nearly 100% of the time with my wife's Fury, and a good friend's Guardian. In our mid-sixties, we've got the agro dance down to a science now. Sometimes I burn the mobs down and count on the heals to be there (and they always are). Most of the time, though, the Guardian (one of the best tanks I've every played with, in any game), who has Masters in all of his taunts, keeps the agro so well I pull it less than I used to with my Conjuror. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a good tank if you want to go all out. Of course, you gotta make do with what you have at the time, so ramp up gradually and use the de-agro tools.</P> <P>It helps that I'm on a PvP server, though. In PvP fights, there is no agro management <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> It's all-out DPS, all the time.....</P> <P> </P> <P>Carnifax, Warlock of Qeynos</P> <P>Venekor</P>

<div></div>I have a level 70 Warlock. Which i raid with. But if we talk about exp-groups i can supply you with this:When I do instance-zones I usually have a Palladin as my tank, he has a spell called Amends he puts on me which transfers a great amount of hate to him. Maybe we're a little overpowered. In my opinion I dont think so really. I pull aggro on raids, but only if i act stupid and dont use my deaggro spells (Havnt checked if you got those in level 37). I have 3. One is just deaggro to singletaget, one is encounter and the last one (will get that in level 52) is in Area of Effect. But what I would suggest if you have just one AE-deaggro, is to go easy in the beginning of a fight, then Id reset as much aggro i could by using my deaggro spell and then cast my AE-spells. But there's a big difference from 37 to 70. I have 4 extra spells. But basically i would suggest you to check that AE-deaggro spell and try to use that before the AE.<div></div>

<DIV>Only advice I can offer, and I apologize if this seems patronizing - dont mean it to be, is that the hate reducers dont do a lot of good until you have some hate on the mob to begin with. So I'll start with DOTs or baby nukes and get a little bit of hate going (but usually not enough to pull aggro) then hit my AE hate reducer (Vullian Nullification) before using my big DD (void distortion) or AE (apoc).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The spell names are different at 37 but the principle should still apply.  You'll still get aggro and you'll still die. Hopefully a little less.</DIV>

<DIV>The following has nothing to do with this thread. But just posting here as the other one banshye made got locked.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Notice how there are threads called 'Shadowknights' and 'Rangers are underpowered' left in the general and combat discussion threads whereas whenever a warlock one is brought up there, it gets moved here straight away? I mean the bloody thread name is of a class and nothing more. I bet if someone made a thread named 'Warlocks' it would get moved here straight away, if not locked. Way to go for inconsistent moderation. What makes it worse is they actually get paid.</DIV><p>Message Edited by SmEaGoLLuM86 on <span class=date_text>08-09-2006</span> <span class=time_text>03:14 PM</span>
