View Full Version : Spells no longer break when targets switched on mob death?

I need someone to testify to this becuase I wasn't sure it was actually happening.Today in two x4 raids (one in Dythra's Lair; the other vs. Drayek for Fire and Ice) I noticed that if a mob died while I was casting a spell - and the MA found a new target before my spell completed casting - the cast would not break and the spell would fire off. At first I thought it was just my imagination but it happened multiple times. If this is in fact a recent change it's a GREAT change. It's also one I don't recall reading about - which is why I'm curious if anyone else has noticed it.

Message Edited by Vicontessa on 06-26-2006 04:43 PM

Yeah, I have noticed that if I switch targets mid cast the spell actually lands. Now that you mention that it I recall that it didn't used to do that before. I haven't though looked to see if its hitting my current target or the one I started casting it on.

if you are casting an encounter based AE and if your initial target dies while you are still casting you will continue to finish the spell. as far as the tank switching mobs while casting i've always noticed the spell will finish casting and hit the initial target unless it dies before the spell is done casting(for single target nukes only)

No no ... that's not what I meant. That is how it has always worked and it's been annoying becuase of the constant "Target is not alive" message. What I was seeing tonight was this tho:I begin cast AE - let's say Absolution -- mob dies -- tank switches mob -- spell finishes casting -- my spell hits the new mob and the rest of the encounter instead of saying "Target no longer alive."Previously I had to constantly off-target the strongest enemy in the encounter becuase otherwise I would waste valuable seconds on AE spells that would cast and never fire off due to the original targeted trash mob dying too fast.

Message Edited by Vicontessa on 06-26-2006 07:55 PM

Message Edited by Vicontessa on 06-26-2006 07:56 PM

That changed in LU24.As long as a mob in the group encounter is still alive your group AE's will still cast even if your initial target dies mid cast. Your broodlings also continue through the encounter until their 24 seconds is up.

I knew about the broodlings - I didn't realize it was for all encounter AE as well. That rocks. Probably one of the best changes to come along in the past year.

yep encounter based aoes will hit the encounter even if the original target died and regardless if the tank gets a new target.best change for all that cast aoes imo.

It is a VERY great change for me. I would always get [Removed for Content] about when a mob would die while I was casting something big. I think it's safe to say that ALL warlocks know what I'm talking about.

Yes, thank god for this change. One of the best changes made yet imo. Aoe's take so long to cast that on raids it's hard to get one in since ya have to wait so long to cast it so you don't pull the whole group on ya first shot hehe.
