View Full Version : If You Had To Do It Again...
<div>Hi all,</div><div> I've been reading these boards for a bit to get some ideas on starting a new class. I have an actively playing ranger (45), summoner (44), inquisitor (41), ranger (20) and pally (2<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. I have bad altitus so I dabble between my characters quite a bit. And don't even get me started on my crafting obsession with the same leveling ranges in my crafters.....:smileywink:</div><div> </div><div> I just rolled up a mage class and picked sorcerer. I am leveling him up as an armorer (now 32) to make armorer for my nagging hubby. I've been resisting leveling him so he will sit at level 11 until I become a high level armorer. I am pretty aware of the class differences between wizard/warlock but I'm still sitting on the fence. I've watched warlocks in action in our group encounters and I have been darned impressed. They seem to add quite a bit to the group encounter. They also seem like a fun class to play.</div><div> </div><div> If you had to do it all over again and had to choose between wizard and warlock, would you still stick with your current class? Each class has their own sets of problems so I realize that no class is really perfect so I'm not looking for the flavor of the month class. I do like to solo when I don't have a ton of time to play. I admit that I'm a bit of a Splitpaw junkie when I don't have a ton of time (not Harclave). I assume that warlocks would hold their own there. My summoner can really kick booty on most encounters set on the difficult setting.</div><div> </div><div> Looking for a little feedback from you seasoned warlocks. These boards have been most informative.</div><div> </div>

<div></div>Personally I'd choose the wizard if I had to face the sublcass decision again, given my current knowledge. The current wizard just is more like the pre-CC warlock, in terms of playstyle, I think, also they DO have more utility (evac, single target heat buffs I think, Int buff ...), but that's me. I know there are quite a few warlocks that like the post-CC warlock, however I'm not one of them. I still play my char and he's still my main, but that's mainly because of the effort invested so far, the experiences I had with that char till now, and also given the fact that Vanguard:SoH will be release "soon" (sometime this year) and I'll switch to that, and in the remaining time I don't wanna start a new main from scratch.<div></div><p>Message Edited by Panador on <span class="date_text">01-07-2006</span><span class="time_text">05:41 PM</span></p>
<div></div><p>After LU13 came out I shelved my warlock and swore I'd never play him again. Well I lied and pulled him out to farm some cash for my alts and after relearning how to play I found I sorta liked some of the changes but we still have some problems that need addressed.</p><p>If you played a Warlock Pre LU 13 the changes were/are very hard to get used to so last week I started another Warlock so I could see if there is a difference on how I played then and now and I'll tell you I really like playing my 28 warlock and yes he plays way different that my pre LU13 warlock in those levels. I have learned Aggro management a bit better and I find I like to group more with the 28 warlock now than I did with the older one.</p><p>So If I had to do it over I'd still pick a Warlock</p>

<div></div><p>Technically I wouldn't pick either one. The scout classes have all that the sorcerors have to offer and a TON more.</p><p>But if you would force me to pick between wiz/war I would definately pick wizard this time around. Versatility is the key to a fun and useful character and warlocks have none.</p>
<div>Thanks. You have given me much to ponder. Still working on the crafting for now but at some point will need to make the hard decision. I guess that I will save both the wizard and warlock books and make that decision after I get to a high level armorer. Darn, the warlock sounded so fun too. I will start reading up now on the wizard forums as well.</div><div> </div><div>Thanks all and will be checking back here to see if anything changed.</div>

<div>Summoner or Dirge without a doubt only reason I continue to play my warlock is I'm the only one in our guild so I have some use on raids were we need mass ae dps though I die tons. Our class needs lots of love to bring it back up to a fun class again utility, better single target dps, quicker casting times, and some form of feeding our agro to another person much like the rangers got. There's much more then this that could be done but that would be a start though Wiz/Warlocks share the same problems overall in comparison to scout classes.</div>

<div></div><div>Play what you think you would like based on what you have seen. </div><div> </div><div>If it helps, I am one warlock that would chose warlock all over again. Sure, we have had our ups and downs. I had to relearn how to play my class at level 50 with the expansion. There were many moments where I was frustrated with my death totals, utility, dd damage, etc. When all is said and done though, I really love being a warlock. Even after all of this time, I'm still learning new things and techniques. Personally, that means the class still holds interest for me.</div><div> </div><div>Good luck with your choice.</div>

I would choose a warlock again. Even tho they have some issues in the end game. But seems you will never reach the raiding part of the game with all the alts you want to level <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Anyway in normal groups that are dps heavy you will have alot of times that the mob is dead before you get your first cast of. Also if you have a bad tank, you will get easily mobs hitting your head on AE encounters, but just get a good tank and there shouldn't be an issue <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. The real issue here is our casting times that are very high. Wizards have the same problem. For solo'ing warlocks are probably the most impressive on AE mobs. You can compare them to rangers solo'ing solo mobs. Well warlocks still solo very well on solo mobs. The only problem is, you don't have evac as wizards for when you get an add. You have to run <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Wizards are the solo masters some say. Altho it is all situational if you ask me.As for raids. Well our dps is way too low. We can peel off mobs on AE encounters for no obvious reasons. We can not go to the max of our dps, because of those high casting times. I mean by this we can never use all our spells and have them all down. We can always choose from 2 or 3 spells at any time. Wizards have the simular problems.Honestly any problem that a warlock has, a wizard has it too in some way, except for the evac. All round the dps of a warlock is still better then that of wizards. And I rather love the poison/desease evil aspect of the warlock.Go warlock <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />If the choice would be what class would you play all over again, well zerker and ranger <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div>

I agree with the guy who said roll a predator or rogue...they have the cool abilities, melee damage that can't be resisted, and tons of utility. Sorcerors are tier2 dps now, below predators and summoners (sigh). If a mob is immune to slashing, equip a pierce weapon. Immune to slash arrows? Use rounded arrows for crushing damage. Scouts have no problems with immunities like we do. On raids they get a dirge in their group who buffs their dps and attack speed. I might come out a tiny bit ahead of a predator on a long raid due to their longer recasts, but their utility otherwise:EvacTrackingPathfindingChain ArmorDefensive and Offensive stances depending on your situation.[Rogues get] Group invisMassive debuffs that are essential on raidsWarlock gets...Stupidly high AE damageStupidly useless power transferOn a heroic battle ranger will be equal to warlock because a 4 second cast of devastation will give the ranger a chance to empty his whole arsenal (including flurry of arrows, massive AE attack). Pick a predator, seriously.<div></div>

<div></div><div></div><p>If I was starting over and I wanted to DPS I would roll either a ranger or a conjuror. If I wanted DPS/utility I would roll a brigand, there aren't many brigands and their debuffs are amazing against orange con raid mobs.</p><p> </p><p>Message Edited by MilkToast on <span class="date_text">01-09-2006</span><span class="time_text">08:37 AM</span></p>
