Well, if you're just coming back after 6 months--we are no longer the class you remember. We're AE Specialists now--which means you get to be MT for a few seconds before getting squished until you relearn the class. Best thing you can do right now is make friends with a Paladin. They've got an aggro transfer spell line (Amends, at level 50) that benefits both you and the tank by giving him 41% (Adept 3) of your aggro--the more you do, the better the Pally holds aggro for the whole group. We've also got some disease damage now--they changed some of our poison lines to disease, which makes us slightly more flexible when dealing with poison immune mobs. DD damage was reduced, but AE damage was boosted. We still bring teh hurt in a major way.

In order here is what I would do

Open spell book and organize by category, (and I chose organize across). Many spells now share same timer, so you want to work on understanding what spells to put on hotbar.

Next step is find some real easy low greens to solo. Practice soloing on single mobs and group mobs to understand what spells are good for different situations.

Then get a group and practice re learning agro mgmt. We no longer are the single target DPS masters like wizards. We are AE DPS. We help groups/raids get to the named faster, and kill off adds in raid/group encounters. It took me a while to adjust to the new role, but so far its been pretty good.

Reference this forum to understand what spells to upgrade to AD3 and M1/M2. I wouldnt make any hasty respect decisions till you have played the class solid for two weeks or more. Its gonna take time, your solo tactics have changed, lots to relearn. In a nut shell be patient and enjoy your new found AE DPS Power.).

Things to note:

Cast times are longer now, mostly because we focus on AE spells and most of them have horrid cast times. Hint, dont assist MA on grou pencounters, or you will constantly get the message the mobs already dead. Our cast times are high, so you can target a different mob of the same encounter and do your thing in most cases. That is provided you have a good tank. If you group with a paly, I would reccoemend asking them about a buff the have called amends, its the warlocks best friend.)

Warlock Roots breaks now, (Cower) is your friend

Our straingth is now AE DPS, Stuns, stifles, silence, dots. And we do ok on single target's.

Learn to when to use silence/stifle/stun spells to use on different mob encounters. These are great for casting mobs.

We now can equip stuff in our ranged slot. You can also cast manastone/horse/carpets and many other things straight from

backpack, so they dont need to be equipt to use. You can now wear two hex dolls!

Handcrafted robes are now actually worth more than a 5 dollar Bj on some downtown corner. They omg have int now woot!

If you solo a lot upgrade your armor, we wear paper yes, but its a huge difference (between t5 and t6 gear) when soloing in DoF

Did I mentioned group with a paly and abuse amends? /grin

When no chanter in the group we actually provide some decent CC skills. Make a hot key "XX is rooted back the [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] up or die, your choice"

Work on harvest skills and get those rares, you want antying you use with any frequencey to be AD3 better. Mostly your Main core spells first then branch out once they are done.

Thats about it for now. If I think of any game breakers Ill post more later.

It might suck to not be able to nuke for 5 plus K, but when you do 2k DPS and watch a group of 10 mobs ^^^ all die at the same time, you quickly forget that your not a wizard spewing pois/disease.)

Cheers and Enjoy your comeback!

Excellent advice here, especially the post above me.

Empty your hotbars completely and rebuild them from nothing, this forces you to study your new spell lineup.

Basically almost all spells 15+ levels below you can be tossed off the hotbar because they share timers with later upgrade spells. Exceptions are the spells without upgrades, which are good forever (HO Starter etc), and Ice Flame/Word of Force which scale up forever. Ice Flame is still on its own timer, and still rocks. Word of Force shares a timer with a higher-damage regular spell so it's not that useful any more.

Study spell descriptions of ALL non-damage spells very carefully. There have been huge changes and understanding them is critical to your new tactics.

I've played my warlock and wizard alts each one and a half levels since DoF, and to my surpise I still like the warlock better. Necro > all of course, mua ha ha.

Message Edited by XBrit on 11-21-2005 12:49 PM

Thanks for your responses!

Yeah, I was able to remove a lot of stuff from my active toolbars now that they are on the same timer.

Does Nullification (I think that is the name of the spell) still bring instant death. I could cast that on a mob and even the best tanks couldn't save me... It was the later tongue twist type spell.

I have been mentoring down some friends and it has been helpful to get back into the game.

Omaplata

New Dawn Adventurers

First off Welcome back :smileyhappy:

I was 50 when the combat revamp went in and I shelved her 15 min after I logged in and died 2 times. Well my alts were running out of cash so I brought her out and took her to SP to farm a bit. I did as the above posters have suggested and after a couple of deaths I really started liking the changes.

I don't know what level you are or if you have the SP expansion but it's a great place to relearn how to play a warlock.I would suggest the upper tunnels because the groups are smaller than the begining SP zone.

If you have BG you'll now find it's an encounter root instead of an area root and also it does break now so have your stuns and other root ready for thos Oh Crap moments. Learning how to reuse BG is sorta like doing the groups of Lizards before you got BG, Stun and root and stun and root ect...... :smileyvery-happy:

Good Luck

Well, I haven't actually done much with my Warlock yet, been helping out some of the people we brought over from SWG(RIP).

Funny I was the 58th Warlock on Lucan D'Lere to hit 34, I dinged 35 (was only about 2 % away when I left) and now I am the 176th to 35.

Thanks again for all your advice, seems like Aggro Mgmt will be the most difficult. I am so used to just targetting the MT and blasting away.

Omaplata
