Due to slow cast time and NIl crystal requirement I personally dont use him unless fighting a tough solo mob or in a group fighting a named creature. All other occasions the mob will die before Netheros lands even a few hits.

For solo encounters up to your level +2 or so:

1. Have your damage shields up.

2. Cast Netheros

3. Cast the two nil crystal spells (Can't have to many crystals)

4. Cast quick stun (Pet is probably in peril by now)

5. Cast DD (Almost always will pull agro off your pet)

6. Repeat 5 till mob is dead.

Netheros does between 50-65dps at adept3 in a heroic fight or raid, 3 warlocks regularly raid in my guild including myself, that is 150-200dps extra each battle. The suggestion about casting the curse spells in conjunction with netheros is good though, since it makes it so you maintain your crystal count with each cast.

I usually just cast it when I feel like showing off. It still rasies eyebrows now and then. Always fun. Especially when people freak out and go "omg ADD" -- lol Makes me wonder ... I will also cast it when I am in a group with an MT - just for that little DPS boost. But only when fighting something triple-up and at least con yellow. Anything less is inefficient. Also when I solo the single-up arrow mobs. i.e. shade prowlers etc.

I use him to cluster up a spread encounter, so I can cast Bony Grasp on them all. Sometimes in a tough fight for a little DPS. I try to use the curses when I cast him so I get back what I spend, though.

He hits with disease damage, so he can make your Dark Broodlings spawn if you have Dark Infestation up. I use him all the time because of that.

Netheros Adept 1 on Tremblar (at lvl 60 caster) scored 66DPS - worth while as long lasting DOT cheap on mana

I use him to cluster up a spread encounter, so I can cast Bony Grasp on them all. Yup, I do the same thing. Send in Nethros, BG, and AE means few mobs will live long enough to hurt me. I hate to get blood on my robe.... Also enjoy roaming some of the lower zones, seeing a soloer in peril and sending in the demon to save them...hehehe.

The only time I can say I use this pet is when I am trio or duo with a pally and need to slow up to not gain hate. The chaos lord generates his own hate so he can do some damage while the pally gets some agro because we need to kill the thing fast (usually ^^^ heroics 2-3 levels or so above) and he needs to heal. It usually goes something like this:

Anarchic Maelstrom ->Netheros -> Torment of shadows -> Shadowed Prye -> Aura of Emptiness -> soul blister -> Nul Distortion -> soul blister

Adjust as needed to add some Netherous realm / Dark Infestation as needed depending on the fight duration, usually after the Aura. Also gotta use Vulian Intrusion and/or Thwart to stun the mob if the pally needs to heal. I've used this combo a bunch because I have a good friend pally and we do it all the time. I also have a parser attached to my hip so I know it's effective, but depending on what you like and the situation it may not always be the best. There is the problem with the crystals though, they suck but if your tank can handle the mobs or you are out soloing (and using roots) you can double curse all the time and build up crystals quick.

I use it in this situation because he has a long duration and, as stated before, generates hate for himself and not me which helps the tank. This may just be happening to me, but I am cruelly hoping its not Since LU17 whenever I fire off Netheros at a group of mobs to pull them together for BG, the group will, without fail, always aggro me and stay on me. The mobs always used to aggro the caster at first until the pet got a hit or two in to gain their attention, but now I can leave them alone and let my pet pound away and they still wont change target May well just be me, may be Nihilism that I have up when soloing gaining too much hate at start of fight, but let me know if anyone else has spotted similar trouble and I'll go try out without Nihilism up.

Yes I have noticed at times that he will not pull them all in and a few will come charging straight at me, however it doesn't happen all of the time. I have however seen a difference in the type of mob though that does not fall in on the pet. For instance the mummies in living tombs have been notorious for flying right past the pet and coming right at me or the sabertooths in PoF. Only thing I can come up with to explain this is the pets disease based hit, as the mummies in Living Tombs, Sabertooths and other mobs may be more resistant to it and the pet doesn't pull agro on them.

I have not seen any difference in the mobs agroing me vs sticking on the pet since the LU17 update. I have nihilism up every time I solo, so I am not sure that it what is causing it for you.

"Since LU17 whenever I fire off Netheros at a group of mobs to pull them together for BG, the group will, without fail, always aggro me and stay on me."

I've had this with single targets too. Casting the spell seems to generate more aggro than the Netheros does from his failed attacks. This is really frustrating because he can't seem to hit white cons anymore. Against white cons he is pretty much just there to break any roots I cast.

He really kicks butt against down arrow green solo mobs. Why I should want their butts kicked, I don't know, but he can do it.
