I've been testing this a lot lately. After the recent update I noticed my root wasn't working quite right. First it was breaking immediately with no spells cast, no damage done. It would land and immediately break. Being the first spell I cast I thought this was odd. The hotfix seemed to help with this problem but now there is a new problem.

When the root breaks and the fear kicks in the mob is snared as it is supposed to be. However, it 99% of the time heads straight for me AND hits me while still under the affect. So I tested it some more, and started rooting mobs just out of melee range. Every single time the root broke I would immediately get hit.

Our root spell is still broken.

*edit for run on sentences*

Message Edited by Darkcreator on 11-12-2005 11:44 AM

I have noticed the same thing, where the mob breaks root, the fear icon shows up in my effects box, and the mob comes over and smacks me while it's supposed to be feared (using paralyzing fear, though). It's not 99% for me, in fact quite a bit less, but I have definitely noticed it.

My biggest problem with paralyzing fear, though, is that when the mob is in "fear mode," it runs through walls or if there are no walls, it drops through the ground. If I happened to be casting root when it goes out of normal boundaries, then I end up rooting it where I can't cast on it and I've effectively wasted the power it cost me to cast root. If I also have debuffs and aura of darkness up, I've also wasted the power spent casting them. This has resulted in a couple of deaths and a lot of times where I run OOP before a mob I should be able to easily kill is dead.

I've resorted to digging out the lower level root, but even at adept 3, it seems to break a lot more often and its max duration is less than paralyzing fear, so I have to cast it a lot more often. I'd really rather have our root line continue with the high snare effect and no fear, if I had my choice. The fear is often just annoying, especially when fighting mobs that assist each other.

Agreed.

It is a VERY nice change to have the spell line give 100% chance to fear, but how afraid is a mob when it comes straight for you? Also, in PvP they come straight for you too, so back to frozen manicals for that (Players aren't pacified either but that's another story).

I think fear all together is broken but the clipping rules are different for mobs than players, remember they can run up and trough walls to get to you when you run away so fear allows them to climb walls and the faces of cliffs where players would fall to their doom (done it). Not a developer, but if clipping is the issue this may be a fundamental change to the rules of engaged targets that may never happen.

not to get off topic but my root breaks also i use frozen manacles alot

start

Frozem manacles

debuff

nuke

nuke nuke

root break recast

root break with no other spells cast this happenes alot especially after root breaks and i am low health and get root off root never seems to stick then dead warlock

I rather have a more powerful snare (like 60%) for 10 secs or a stun effect för 5 secs (would be like the fear but it would actually work) when root wears off rather then the crappy fear effect. Mobs move towards me when they are feared or atleast in a 45degree angle. This is really lame cause it prevents you from what its intended for. I dont see the upgrade really. I still use Frozen Manacles Adept3. Much more reliable and you have more control.

Message Edited by Magod on 11-16-2005 08:35 AM
