Hey guys,

I recently started a warlock alt (which I'm loving), and i got the upgrade to my tounge twist. I think it was called Nullification. It looks like this spell pacifies instead of stifles, however, I'm not sure exactly what this means or does.

I haven't noticed much when I use it, but that may be because of its short timer (4.5 sec I think). Is this supposed to keep the mob from attacking me for the duration (or longer?) and if so, do I have to turn off auto attack or risk breaking the pacify?

My standard solo tactic has been root, debuff, nuke till root breaks, ice spike (to stun), reroot and repeat. I seem to have no trouble taking anything down with this unless I run out of room to move. I was thinking that pacify might give me an extra second over the ice spike stun, but it hasn't seemed to do anything. Just wondering if I'm using it wrong, or if there is another issue I'm unaware of.

Thanks guys!

Good for interrupting casters. The silence line is even better.

You make the mob lazy when you pacifie him. He is still able to cast; but he will cast alot less even not cast. It doesnt make him unable to cast tho.

In the higher levels you will get Vulian Interference (3 and Vulian Intrusion (52) which also have this pacify affect, I don't remember exactly how the older spells work but I think it's the same spell line so I will comment on it. The pacify effect should stop your enemy from taking any hostile actions against you, both melee and magic. It can still move and will run to you but it will not damage you until the spell runs out. I for one LOVE this spell and use it alot... the pacify (and interrupt) effect works great.

For instance, if I am soloing a ^^^ (named/melee) mob I usually play it very safe and use both single root and our group root on it, sometimes it happens that both roots break instantly on some spell (I've even had a root getting resisted and breaking the other root at the same time). It happens that both your roots aren't up (they take too long to cast anyway, getting hit and possibly stunned is what I want to avoid) so I always fire the pacify spell, at my level the pacify duration is about 7 seconds which is long enough to land a root on it and take a safe distance once again. Casters are much harder to solo but this spell gives us a small chance to do them too, as long as you don't try the wizard types that can Ice Comet your behind back to the previous century =)

I've also used this spell alot in heroic fights to give the tank and healers some time to recover, 7 seconds without a target doing damage to a tank can make the encounter so much easier especially if you get to cast it several times in a long fight.

Hmm, hope I didn't go too far offtopic here, these are just my findings and I thought I'd share them. =)

Edit: I thought autoattack was more for melee types, I for one don't use it because I'm never close to a mob to actually hit it with melee, and even if I could I would be pretty useless. But to answer your question: nothing should break the pacify affect, not even autoattack. As I said I cast it often in fights with the whole group still hitting it and the pacify icon stays up for the whole duration no matter what, I can also see it because of the tank's healthbar not taking plunges all the time that the pacify is indeed in effect.

Message Edited by D-lirium on 11-03-2005 04:59 PM

Exactly, pacify is great, and this spell should be used as often as possible. Stifle is only casting and combat arts but pacify includes autoattacks. Essentially, like a stun except the mob can still move. Thus, it's useful for when you need to do some positioning as well.

Awesome! Thanks for all the info guys.

FYI, the reason I asked about the auto attack is because i melee the spell casters to get as much damage in as quickly as possible against them. That poison proc (don't remember the spell name) goes off a ton, and if I'm try to root and nuke them they just keep casting whereas if I don't root them, I can get a few extra spells and hits in while they are running over to me.

Thanks again for all the great responses. Much nicer people here then on my Pally boards.

It can also come in handy when the tank loses aggro and a big nasty comes running at you. Hit him with pacify and give the tank time to regain aggro. Used this the other night in RE and it worked like a charm

Pacify stops auto attack. For some reason mobs stop casting while pacified, but I can tell you I have been sniped by ice comet while my wizard opponent was pacified. Another spell that makes warlocks awesome in groups and atrocious in PvP...however this is not a pvp game, so I will take pacify over stifle anyday. When you get vulian intrusion, it is an 8 second pacify, so basically we regain our lost Aura of Emptiness in this spell!

Basically it is pretty much broken to the point where mobs are stunned for the duration. However pacify only turns off auto-attack. PVP I still get owned by every class except guardian lol.
