Hey fellow Warlocks,

I got lucky and found a rough jasper the other night and am trying to decide between Dark Distortion or Negative Absolution for an adept 3. The other one will be made a master 2 when I get to 24. I'd like to see the numbers (or screenshots) of both spells at adept 3 and master 2 so I can compare. Can anyone help me out with this?

Gorgin - 21 Warlock on Highkeep

Adept 3 Negative Absolution and Master 2 Dark Distortion. Dark Distortion will be used up until at least lvl 37 and you will be making Null Absolution Master 2 at lvl 34.

Negative Absolution (Adept III) 321 - 595 damage on target encounter Dark Distortion (Master II) 471 - 874 damage on target Increases power of caster by 39 Thats the stats on mine, that's with 91 INT, I asume thats the only stat that modifies the strenght on the spell. Had the adept 3 one made yesterday when I was at level 23 and dinged 24 today, can't remember the stats on the master 2 of Negative Absolution, but I felt it did'nt outweigh the adept 3 with enough to upgrade it again. Very happy with both of them as they are now.

Yup, agree with Kalel 100%. DD is your big bang nuke for the forseeable future. You're going to want it at Master 2.

Oh my stars and garters...a max hit of 874 on Dark Distortion Master2? I am drooling over the havoc I could wreak with that. Thanks for the response. It's really helping me make up my mind.

Gorgin - 21 Warlock on Highkeep

For the counter opinion,

Warlocks are designed in a very special way. We can AoE better than any class in the game.

With Negative Absolution at Master II, you can AoE for about 400-750 every 12 seconds. This spell hits up to 5 mobs. The damage on DD Adept III is almost the same but for one mob.

Before level 34 (When you get Null Absolution and can immediately make it Master II...for 749-1393 every 12 seconds), I could run The Trial of harclave from zone in to sit in chair in about 40 minutes...with 100% kill except the pit. Once I hit 34, I can do it in 26 minutes.

You have to remember something, although it is an encounter based AoE....it is perfect for plowing through single mobs too! The spells are VERY similar in their damage. I would suggest you take the AoE at every opportunity. The only other thing you need is 2 rares each tier (except tier 3 when you only NEED one). Make your Root and your Distortion Adept III. Everything else is just gravy if you get it upped.

My point, Vorek, is that DD Master II he will get more bang for his buck. He will use this up until he gets Nil Distortion ad3 @37. With Negative Absolution you will only use it until 34 when you will be best served to get Null Absolution. At 34 you will have 2 Master II's that you will use as your primary nukes until 37. Sound advice if you ask me :smileyhappy:

I cast Dark Distortion as a cleanup spell after a resist in the groups of Negative/Null. There are plenty of uses to have a powerful DD, but since AoEs are our bread -n- butter AND you can XP so much faster on groups than on singles (and yes there is always a place to XP on groups through all the levels)

Ok...let me see if I have this right.

Negative Absolution at Adept3 is 321-595 and at Master2 is approximately 400-750.

Dark Distortion at Master2 is 471-874 and gives 39 power.

Anyone have the numbers for Dark Distortion at adept3?

Also I'm curious about something. The descriptions on some of the spells are not as clear as they could be. If one of my AoE spells like Negative Absolution says it hits all mobs in the encounter for 400-750 (at master2) just what does that mean? If there are 3 mobs and it hits for 750 does that mean each mob is hit for 250 or is each mob hit for the full 750? I don't have much experience with AoEs since my main and my other alt (a Guardian and a Ranger) are more single target oriented.

Gorgin - 21 Warlock on Highkeep

For my money, I took it and never looked back. Also took the 34 version as my Master II as well and got the DD upgrade at 37 and made it Adept III. The best reason I can think of to do this is to get used to how you will be leveling post 34.

Will hit everyone in the encounter for full damage, well a roll between highest and lowest of course, it's not split. But only works on encounters, grouped mobs that is. If you agro 5 single mobs at once, your pretty screwed.

With over maxed INT (hex dolls, INT potion, INT gear, buffs = 159 INT lvl 24 my AOE is close to 830 damage max at Master II.

I went with that because I duo with a SK and Absolution is just sick.
