Interesting to see a few comments in http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=24&message.id=13222 about most poeple making the honest assesment they would of rolled wizard had they know the revamp state of play. So wouldnt mind hearing from established warlocks. If you had your toon at 20 again would you still go warlock or wizzard ? Any why ?

I like my warlock, i really dont think its all doom and gloom.

I would very much continue to play a warlock.

Some of our spells are not working properly and I certainly have my complaints, but I am adjusting and enjoying it.

Actually, given the current state of things, post-revamp, I would have chosen wizard back then if I had known how things'd turn out. Back in the day I didn`t really see any real difference between wizards and warlocks and imo there was none, the main difference is the lvl 50 Devastation vs. Ice Comet, but when you just turn lvl 20 you don`t care about stuff 30 lvls and several months of gameplay away. If I was able to change my char to wizard and "transfer" the upgrades, so eg. I got Devast adept 3 so I'd have Ice Comet adept 3 etc. - I'd at least be tempted to do it. I'm lvl 55 atm and enjoy my post-CC warlock, but to be honest, it's not the class I signed up for and given the problems that come with using AoEs in groups - aggro, long casting timers etc. - I often have to resort to single target spells anyway so I'd rather be actually good at that. AoE dmg is great for soloing but it can really be a problem in a group and if I get frustrated because of a change the devs forced upon us - that's just no fun.

With curses like Aura of Emptiness and Wicked gift, Warlock is too cool of a class to give up. I love the idea that we can do a few extra procs and have our dps skyrocket. Not to mention AE damage....Warlock rules all other classes still and I don't see it changing.

I'd probably go Warlock as well. Yeah, wizards got off a bit better than we did with the combat changes, but in reality we didn't get it half as bad as all the whiners on here say.

Not tryin to be a whiner, but I'm sure the SOE fan-boi's will accuse me of it anyway. Honestly, I'd go Wizard if I knew how the CU was going to completely redefine the Warlock class. Some people like it, and that's fine. It just isn't what I signed up for, and my personal opinion is that it's less fun than what we used to do.

So, I did roll a Wizard and a Bruiser after the CU, and they are both actually as fun as I remember Warlocks to be at this level (early 20's) back in the day. I guess you have to know which classes the developers favor if you want to have fun... anyway, I'm not deleting my Warlock or Assasin since I'm 99% sure that now I play these "preferred" classes, they'll get nerfed... and when that happens, if Warlocks and Assasin's are fixed, I'll play them again.

Oh, and I finally installed WoW and reinstalled EQ1 and played for about an hour last night. I don't really care for the "cartoon" feeling those two games share, but the gameplay was fun and natural, as I expected. My friend is going to loan me his Guildwars account for a day or so to let me check that game out. It's funny, the roles were reversed a few weeks ago. Before the CU update, I almost had him convinced to join me in EQ2. And, there is always City of Hero's/Villans. Monotonous, sure, but playable.

If you would have asked me this question 2 days after the CU went live I would have said Wizzard. I was so bummed when I tried to play like I did before and was getting my @ss handed to me so much that I stopped playing her and rolled a Wizzard.

Well I was getting low on cash so after a week I pulled out the Warlock and this time I read what my spells did and decided to go experiment in SP with them. After about an hour of playing with the spells I found I was having a blast! it was like I was in the mid 30's again learning how to do groups without BG. I went to DoF and joined some friends doing Raptors and my god I was loving being able to AE for that much damage ( I did learn I had to manage my aggro a bit better than I used to :smileyhappy: )

So now my answer is I would still choose a Warlock.

Message Edited by Atdan on 10-09-2005 04:34 PM

I was "only" level 33 at the revamp. I'm now "only" level 38. Even so. . . I don't see a whole lot of difference. Yes, my cast time on the Disortion line is higher, and the recast is slower, so the dps from just that spell is down. But I never experienced the DD + ND being on different timers thing from before, so it's not like I miss it. And now my Abhorrent Gift adds damage for each spell strike, including DoT ticks, so casting the 3 dots and spamming all my nukes adds quite a bit of damage. Add Aura of Pain for additional damage, and that my Null Absolution at M2 actually does more damage than my Adept 3 ND, so doubles as a highly mana inefficient single-target nuke, and. . . I just don't notice my single-target dps as having gone down from before -- it seems like a consistent and logical progression from how it was. In groups when I cast the 3 procs on the tank, it helps the dps go up also and even increases hate on him, and if the tank knows his business and I watch what I am doing, I can drop my big encounter nukes and not get aggro and help quite a bit that way.

So I don't really see what the complaints are about, I guess, becuz from what I've seen most of the complaints come from levels 37 and up, and I wasn't 37 when it happened, so I don't know what I'm missing.

I *do* miss my STR and INT buff though. Going from 206 INT before the CU to 173 after it kinda blew. And I find myself weighed down every so often now, where that never used to be a problem. But. . I can live with it. Looking forward to gaining more levels and the new spells that are coming up too.

If I were level 20 again. . . I don't know. I really didn't care for any mage for a long time, just created this character to be a merchant mule. I wanted to name it "Gotter Damerung" though, figuring that would be a fun name for a nuker. It was a dark elf, and since warlocks use poison damage and that seemed more "evil" for the neutral nukers, I went warlock for that reason and that reason alone. And it turned out to be so much fun that it's now my main. I wasn't and am not interested in being "the best of the best of the best, Sir!" or anything like that, just to be able to solo a bit and to be useful in a group. And I solo fine, and every group I've been in has just about wet themselves at the damage I've added, so. . . .I think I'm doing fine as a warlock. I'd pick it again.

I would still choose Warlock. And btw, Wicked gift does not proc with each subsequent tick of a dot. Tried it with torment of shadows, shadowed pyre, dark pyre... all only proced the initial hit.

Alezara

I`m still glad wioth my warlock and would stick to it. Of course there`s always something to be unhappy about, but I guess that`s true for all classes Jörg PS: The rumours about an aoe-nerv scare me nevertheless...

Warlock. We dont have the glamour of a Wizard's nukes, but the awe inspring AE attacks, especially when the group seems overwhelmed, bring great comments from groupmates.

Warlock - hands down.

something thrilling about dropping the aoe smackdown, and that 2 seconds of not knowing whether the mobs are gonna die, or if you pulled all the aggro and are about to die in a hilarious mess of damage.

BTW, if you've never seen lord naggy cough - i highly recommend a solo run to assault him. Works great on Siyamark or whatever his name is too. Dont have a chance at killing him yet, but it's a great feeling to be able to hit him and annoy him right before you get drained for 12k power and hit for 28k cold. beatiful breath effects too.

warlock. it's so awesome when it group is like "OMG there's 5 of 'em! mezz mezz!" and i say "bugger that" and cast the 3 main ae's then watch them all drop dead at the same time. of course if that first round don't kill 'em all and a pally isn't using amends, i turn into a gooey paste. all in all, it's great fun. 52 here.

i may roll up a wizard just to see what it's like though.

You should change your class to High Elf Fence Rider :smileywink:

I would still go Warlock....and generally it was the first time I cast Nil Absolution after the revamp on a group of mobs that makes me say that. For all our current flaws, I just loved seeing all those health bars taking a massive hit. As I relearned the rest of my class I found all our new abilities quite nice, but Dang it I like being an AOE specialist.

I would go with Warlock

or better yet, go back to 10 and make a necro or Conj, they do way more dps than either of us now anyway hehe

I have not played a wizard before but have been having A LOT of problems with my warlock. Yes 50 people on this boards can say they soloed UBER-L33T Level 64^^^^^^^^^ named mobs and didnt use any health/power but I could care less what a few people on these boards have done or have claimed to have done or something they did once that took 3 hours to do.

I solo 60-75% of the time and with roots breaking and gaining aggro from more mobs (10 levels) its just more difficult soloing. Its like you have to find the one perfect spot on each map where there are melee mobs and no aggro around.

This revamp gives very little room for error for warlocks in my own opinion. And at my level I am still trying to manage my spells and am getting owned regularly.

Is changing to wizard at level 20 the answer? I cannot say, but having an evac, roots, and more DPS seems like better options for soling then what we have.

I guess in other words, It takes a long [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] time to level soloing (and grouping isn't real fast either). I want someway to level simply so I can watch TV or talk on phone or hold/feed my baby while doing so. I think soloing mobs 10 levels below me should be more simple but its not the case- they still own me. I like that one should be able to really manage and focus their actions and take on higher level mobs but would like something a little easier so I can solo and not have to pay 100% attention and use all of my reflexes to stay alive against mobs 10 lvls lower (the way it was before).

Dont take this the wrong way but, if you cant effectively solo with little to no effort as a warlock you should try another class. Just my opinion.

At 56-57 I was solo'ing 58-59 solo mobs without downtime. Very nice XP and It was easy as all hell.

That is kind of a tough/touchy question imho.. Don't get me wrong; I still love my Warlock.. Great damage and a few nice (very very small and situational) utility features. At the same time, I'd be a complete liar if I didn't say part of me wishes I had rolled a Illusionist/Coercer. I know, I could always start over. I'm just not really ready to go through all the same old content again... =/

I'd probably have switched up to wizard for a number of reasons.

1. Warlocks on my server (AB) seem just as common now as wizards so the uniqueness factor is blown.

2. I hate the AoE role we have been forced to take. It has low utility outside of grinding. Sadly I'm falling into the 'wish I'd tried...' category with my 52 Warlock.

Like others' main complaint, the 'target is already dead, please start a new 4sec timer' thing is so completely shyte.
Our utility, although 'unique' is pretty well shyte too. We can pump insignificant mana...

What little raiding I have done (Drayek, Angler, other 'old world mobs) I've spent the first 80% of the boss being a poor mana puppet and debuffer, then going nuts with damage the last 20%.
Today the tank went down against Angler and I was 4th on the aggro list after one Deva and a few debuffs.
My 35 Ranger has over 25% more threat reduction on his 20sec recast adept 3 Slip than I do only my 15min recast Nullmail.

I dunno. This class is very rapidly becoming a complete lack of fun for me to play.
Oooh aaaah I can take down a 5 x vvv group add solo... Yay.

I logged on a friend's 52 Illusionist to run her down to Naggy with a group.. 0.5sec nuke cast times. Utility, ultility, utiltitltitltltititltltity coming out her... Her class was so much FUN!! It was a truely depressing experience.

I know, I know. I'm probably not playing the class right after 52 levels (*yawn*), don't have uber enough fabled gear, shouldn't express an opinion cos I didn't rush my [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] to level 60 (*boggle*), but the way I see it, if an AoE damage decrease does come through, this character is dead to me.

I am pretty much leveling my Ranger to be my new main as it is anyways.

Imo, what once was immense fun is now just aggrovation.
