They can both solo well so don't worry about that. Warlocks use AoE and Wizards use DD, so just decide whether you want to nuke one target or multiple targets at the same time.

Warlocks have been nerfed gimped into oblivion. No stuns on raids now, no effective power drain or power transfer, 50% reduction in our big single target nukes. Ae's that get us agro extremely easily, no evac, roots nerfed to near useless. If I was starting out again, I'd go wizard.
Message Edited by Crowbar_Catspaw on 10-07-2005 02:05 PM

For grouping, I believe warlocks are better than wizards IF you have a decent tank. I say this because so much higher end content is AE -- and this is where we shine in dps. Our single target dps IMHO is nearly the same as wizards as long as the fight lasts more than 10seconds (mine's actually always higher if longer but not by a significant amount).

For solo'ing, I believe wizards are better than warlocks. Simple reason is that efficient sorceror solo'ing is about killing the mob as fast as possible without getting hit. Wizards have faster and greater burst dmg than we do, +int buffs to further increase their dps, their pet is better and they have evac -- in exchange...we get...higher sustained dps.

We both have power issues while raiding.

As it stands, I have to agree with the above poster, summoners are just all around more handy soloing, grouping and raiding. But if you make your decision on the current state of affairs and intend on going for the long haul, you may find yourself disappointed. If roleplaying is important, stick with that -- neither summoners nor sorcerors are broken, by any means.

Message Edited by Splatterpunk28 on 10-08-2005 12:46 AM

Dont listen to these people [expletive ninja'd by Raijinn]ing about warlocks they are wizard at heart and though wizards and warlocks should be the same just different damage types. I love the warlock the ae damage we do does pull aggro in groups but atleast post 50 it doesnt matter one bit mobs die to [expletive ninja'd by Raijinn] fast. If you like the ae damage aspect this is the class for you we are in a league by ourselves in the ae department and we can hold are own in the single target damage just have to know how to put spells together.

Certainly if I knew about the class the way it was going to be after the revamp i most likely would of rolled a wizard - better utility and single target damage. I signed up on a warlock as they were the nuke kings , not anymore. The AOE is good but ive found i have to use it selectively as even grouping with tanks 5-7 levels above me one badly timed AOE and theres aggro all over me. The very slow cast times has killed me more than a few times since the revamp.

Hah i rolled a wizard off the bat because i assumed from the description in the manual "masters of fire and ice, able to deal out startling devestation" and from experiences with every other game, that they would have top dps. Took a combat revamp for that to happen.

Actually it's hard to tell - well, besides the AoE/single-target thing. I got used to the changes (fearing that possible AoE dmg nerf though, that'd cripple us, cripple us bad) but I guess if I had to make the decision again I'd probably wizard. While I like the poison/disease (disease, LOL! ...*sob*) element ice/fire also seems nice and the now-wizards are more or less the class I played till revamp, big single target damage, except Devastation but they got Icy Wind now which is, although to be compared to Nil Absolution and not Devastation, is still very nice AoE, and I'd really love to have that big punch of Ice Comet. Guess the major factors are: - you want ice/fire or poison? - you want single-target dmg specialty or AoE dmg specialty? - if those don't matter much to you there are the other reasons - eg. "do you have more or only wizards in your guild and like to feel unique?" to-date I'm still the only warlock in the guild, only got 2 others but they're both alts, 27 and 33something, kinda like that and I'm the AoE specialist, kinda like that, hehe As wizards/warlocks can be played in both cities that part is of no concern, play in the city you like to.

If I had to make the choice over again, knowing how things played out in the combat changes, I'd probably go Wizzie, because I prefer higher single target nukes. That said, my Warlock (47) is still fun to play, still does impressive damage against anything that isn't immune to poison, and is able to solo just fine. I'm primarily a solo player, and really don't feel "nerfed" after the changes. I go through Harclaves like Patton through Germany. Can crank out writs in Everfrost without a problem, solo feerott or DoF, and seem to be highly desired in groups. Wish I had a disease based nuke somewhere between ice comet and nil distortion in damage, but all things considered, Warlocks remain a very playable class. Find myself playing the Warlock more than my 51 Pally since the changes....

Wizard, no question. Top damage and utility to boot.
