<DIV>hi!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>im currently trying to decide if warlock or wizard is the way to go, i love aoe spam but direct damage and heavy hitting is also a biggie. i hate the stupid cat wizards get as their fun spell and am hella tempted to remake as a warlock for the awesome aoe damage I've been reading about (though there seem to be conflicting opinions). </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So, my question is, in raids and end game battles, would warlocks be useful or would a wizard be the best way to go? I can adapt to either role and know that alot of it is behind the player, but what do warlocks do end game?</DIV>

Thats to be determined right now. We will need a month or so to get in the swing of full time raiding again. With Sony still tweaking all the raid mobs etc.

They are now all-round the best mage class for raid dps, because their damage is mana-efficient, Lich gives maxed-out power regen at all times, and the hate generation is split between pet and necro so it's very rare to pull aggro. For long fights, wizzies just can't keep their power up. From the few hours of raid parsing I have done, basically on single boss mobs (Drayek plus his adds, Misty and Frostbite, Drakotas, whatever), the wizzies pwn dps for the first 30 secs or so, then they gradually drop down the list. At the end of the fight it's necros, bruisers, some scout classes, conjurors who are at the top of the list. [Disclaimer: bitter ex-raid warlock, now playing my necro 100% coz Sony took my class away from me.]</span><div></div>

Basically got everything they could of hoped for plus more for good measure. </font></font> </span><div></div>

<div></div>We are AOE now, so I just assume Abysmal Fury is an important spell to us, right? Despite it is very situational, it can be useful and powerful if you can cast it in-between your other spells. But, how do you apply Abysmal Fury in a raid? Be it raid mob or normal mob,  from day 1 I've been standing at a distance: - to give room to the tank and other melée classes (coz it can be hectic when many melées are that close to the mob), and not to block their view unnecessary. - to keep distance to avoid melée hits, kickback and possibly an enemy AOE attack. (you need to get the aggro to receive a hard melée hit from a mob). I haven't raided yet since revamp, but am I supposed to stand next to the tank and raid mob to get Abysmal Fury off? Or is it really that "situational"? <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Oh, about the Conjurors/Necromancers, absolutely right. They got great dots/dps and their pets can tank better then your average guardian. They are definately the way to go if you want to be a mage and want to be able to solo. <div></div><p>Message Edited by Deathspell on <span class=date_text>10-04-2005</span> <span class=time_text>07:49 AM</span>

"SOE's damage tiers" IMO were really just Moorgard presenting his own half-baked views as being "official" SOE policy. </P> <P>Considering all the totally different types and toughness and durations of combat in the game, it makes no sense whatever to say that some class wil be the top DPS tier without qualifying it in any way. I believe Moorgard was thinking specifically of a short XP-group fight (30 secs or less) when he made that post. For such a fight, his tiers are accurate.... wizzies pwn for single mobs, warlocks pwn for groups.<BR></P> <p>Message Edited by Kuvala on <span class=date_text>10-04-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:50 AM</span>

I will wait to make my determinations based on my parses and the new raid mobs.

All other classes can switch to another weapon or pet type and still get full DPS while sorcerers lose half their DPS from these resistances.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>An example new DoF raid mob is Meathooks which has immunity to fire leaving me (52 wiz) at the utter bottom of the DPS scale on the parse, even below the main tank.   However the tank was lvl 60 so maybe its not really that bad. Was miles after the scouts though. Note that his mob is a quick fight and I didn't even use all my power. Most of the time was spent waiting for the recast timers of ice damage spells to update.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is unfair since classes have been balanced on the basis that all their spells/combat arts are working.</DIV></DIV>

I hear ya. Most other classes can merely change weapons and still do dmg to any raid mob. While we lack this adaptabilty. Hell conjurors can hit with Fire, Ice, Magic, and Crush.. and thats just their spell dmg, not including pets.
