<DIV>Just looking at my appIV version of this spell tonight and it only lasts 0.5 seconds for a duration. I'm almost sure it wasn't that short at APII or a few nights ago.. what the heck is going on? LoL</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Thats the duration of The Spell "Frozen Manacles" - It takes 0.5 seconds to cast that root that looks like ice cubes falling <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The Root of that spell ACTUALLY lats for about 25 seconds. I was confused also until i actually cast it. Look closelely on your maintained spells - youll seethe Frozen Manacles spell icon stay there for half a second and then another spell icon will come up - thats the actual ROOT part of the spell <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

I'm sort of surprised that other Warlocks are still using Frozen Manacles into their 40's... I would have thought Paralyzing Fear would be more useful... they both will break pretty much mmediately on higher level targets if you are nuking, but i would have thought Paralyzing was a better no-nuking crowd control because it's a higher level spell. Can anybody educate me?

The Wizard equivalent of Paralyzing Fear is Tether. The issue with that is as soon as you hit the mob the first root breaks and you are left with a eight second root. Now the thing is when Ring of Cold breaks it leaves a small DoT which will break the first root on Tether leaving you with a root that doesn't last long enough. FM will hold even if a DoT is ticking so for the most part Tether is worthless unless you need to have some time to regen power. From what I heard Paralyzing Fear hasn't been working as well as it has in the past so FM is the next best root.</P> <P>Though on my level 19 Sorcerer (As my sig says I am taking him Warlock which is why I am in this forum right now) FM is still holding about 18 seconds which is good enough for what I need it for.</P> <P> </P>
Yep, Frozen manacles holds through 1-3 nukes or a DoT. Paralysing fear breaks after one touch. So I still use FM at 50, as there is less chance of it breaking. <div></div>

Truss is our spell that upon breaking casts Tether for 8 seconds.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What I do is cast Truss about 8 seconds before Ring of Cold breaks. As it is casting, cancel the dots you have on your target, and once Truss lands, cancel Ring of Cold. This bypasses the dot effect that Ring of Cold places upon your target, and allows Truss to hold through its first duration, and then onto its Tether duration.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I use Truss most of the time over Frozen Manacles. Frozen Manacles is a very good root, and it works VERY well, but from a safety standpoint, Truss is the better. The reason being is it gives you that extra safety root upon breaking. I know I've fought some mobs that have broken through our soft roots, Frozen Manacles and Tether, and that leaves us 2 options... run or stun. Our stun is on such a long timer that you can only do it once per fight, so run is the only other option besides scrambling to attempt to reroot and run back a ways before getting clobbered. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Truss can save your bum in this fashion. Once Truss breaks and activates Tether, this is your cue to start up another root. Be it Frozen Manacles or Truss. But your main goal should be getting Truss onto that mob. </DIV><p>Message Edited by SalBluee on <span class=date_text>06-14-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:13 AM</span>
