View Full Version : Is Bony Grasp bugged now?

I was hunting in EF last night. On almost every mob I hit, Bg would break when I had between 8-10 seconds left. Anyone else notice this?

Yerej

45 Warlock

Oasis

Message Edited by Yer on 06-09-2005 12:14 PM

I just posted about this on another thread! Bony Grasp isn't holding for the full 36 seconds. Also, when I cast it last night in EF the spell would take, but the mob would still run after the tank and do damage! It was like the whole spell wasn't working correctly, and wore off at 8-10 seconds left. I keep very close track of Bony Grasp's time as I have to cast a stun immediately following it's expiration and it caught me off guard all night! After the first time, I just sat here and counted down the 36 seconds with my cursor on the BG icon and it usually broke with 8 seconds left. There was a couple times when it actually held the entire time, but those times were few and far between. My biggest concern was why the mob was able to chase us around and hit us while it was rooted!
I'd noticed this with Paralyzing Fear. It landed, still had the icon showing it was in effect, but the mobs in Dire Hollow would follow me around. It appeared they would warp to me, because I didn't see them coming. Not sure if it is related, but this did seem to stop when I stopped keeping Boon of the Shadowed on.

Had that right from the beginning, never experienced it otherwise, thought it was intended to work that way? lol... I'm so used to this I start to cast FM - temporary root till BG is available again - when there are still about 13, 14 seconds left on BG because usually it breaks about 1-3 seconds after I finish casting FM, so when there should be about 8-10 seconds left...

Hunting in Feerrott I found the same. It also happened with Frozen Man. The mob would warp to me. It did not happen every fight. I will have to check it out tonight.

Kathuk

I havent had any problems with either spell.

I also noticed rooted mobs warping. Had nothing to do with BG specifically, did same thing w/ FM.

Root icon will still be up, mob would warp to me and start whackin on me.. back up a second... start to cast again, bang warp again.

That´s intended I think, the higher the resists the shorter the duration. On grey mobs Bony Grasp holds longer than on higher mobs IMO.

I dont have BG yet but i have noticed the whole warping thing. I was fighting solo and grouped mobs in zek on my own, using FM and PF and both of them would have like a 40% chance for the mob to just warp right in front of my face and start hitting me. I think it happened more on the grouped mobs than the solo ones.

Now ive heard sooooo much about how boney grasp doesnt do anything when you upgrade it, but thats simply not true, the higher you have it upgraded the closer to max root it will last vs the same mob. BTW differnt mobs have it hold differnt times even at the same lvl, think duration is based on your casting lvl and there poisin resist.

Then how come the root would hold in the past? I tried in on some gnomes in Rivervale, the difference is i'm several levels higher and they are grey, but it's the same mobs. Yet BG or FM simply does not hold, while they did a month ago. Remarkable was, those were a group of 3. One was always rooted (the one i was focused on), but the other 2 got warped instantly, so I had to switch target to those. Come SOE, don't [Removed for Content] up the spells we need to play solo :/

I dinged 40 yesterday morning (/Samoa waits for the crowd to die down) and noticed that BG didn't hold for the full 36 secs also. I was soloing groups of RE Mercs in EL for a quest and noticed it dropped with about 5-6secs left EVERY time i used it. Now although 5-6secs isn't that big of a deal it is just the point that our spell doesn't match the description and apparently the timer has been broken for some reason (prolly crying from other classes).

Not a big issue though I just re-adjusted my tactics, but it was annoying.

And as for the mob warping I too noticed this in Feerrott while hunting for the "Tattered Robe" drop (which I havent got yet BTW). [Removed for Content] SOE, fix this crap now. My roots are supposed to keep the mob away from me, not warp them right on top of me.

Message Edited by Sac_joker on 06-13-2005 09:13 AM

UGH! Yes tons of mobs have been warping on top of me WHILE STILL ROOTED ( so I can just step back) but it is incredibly frustrating to be casting while the mob is rooted and have him pop on top of you, take 1/4 of my life away, interrupt me, stun me, hit me again, me walk away, root breaks, I get an add, I DIE, I walk 10 minutes in EF to get my shard, my equipment breaks, I call to qeynos, spend 60s silver getting to zek to zone back into EF, repeat killing a solo mob. PLEASE FIX ROOTS ONCE AND FOR ALL! Ok maybe thats not everytime, but it happened yesterday god dammit!

Still warping as of 6/14 about 1 out of 25 fights.

Rooted mob, he's stuck (not resisted)
Hit for damage, he warps on top of me
I move back he's rooted
Nuke him again, he warps on top again
Cancel the root and he backs up - appearing the normal combat distance in front instead of overlayed on top of me.

Devs, please read that last sentence - the mob stays farther away from me while NOT rooted than while rooted - please fix.

Thanks
RP

ps - if you can't fix this because you are busy working on the stuck-in-combat bug, please finish that first. it's worse. but they both cause casters death, which equates to $ and xp debt and lost time.

Just to make this clear: the rooted worked very well in the past, rooting the targets for the whole 36 sec. To be honest I really don't know if there is a difference between the App I and Adept I (I updated it to Adept I). Maybe the affected area is bigger when you use an upgraded spell.

I also noticed the problem with the early breaking root. Here is what I found out:

The first cast of BG works as usual but if u cast BG again in the same battle and the root is not resisted it doesn't work at all or wears off 10-15sec before it should (incl. warping etc.). Tried this about 10 times and got 8 times the mentioned result.

Tested in the temple of Cazic Thule/ Feerott.

Message Edited by chaos overload on 06-20-2005 03:35 AM

This is a problem with several other classes as well. Ring of Cold isn't holding for the full 36 seconds and I hear that Necros also have this issue with some of their DoTs.

I posted about it breaking early about month ago - and got slated, being told I was wrong. However now my BG seems to hold the full duration. When I first noticed it breaking early I was level 40, now I havent seen it happening that I am 50. Maybe you only get the full duration when the spell cons White to you? (Edit for poor writing skills)

Message Edited by Fepple on 06-21-2005 01:26 PM
I've had this kind of thing happen with numerous detrimental spells as well as Bony Grasp. Vulian Interference was dropping with 10-12 seconds left on the timer last night as was Curse of Emptiness. I just put it down to lag. I don't bother soloing ^^ mobs any more so it's not a huge issue for me.

I dont think its anything to do with the mob your rooting - because you'd notice some breaking early if you rooted different groups in one go.
