Hi guys! Now when I say I'm a noob, I'm a complete noob. Just got the game going about 3 days ago. I bought it way back when it came out...played like one day and moved on to WOW. Now I'm bored with WOW and I've decided to try it out again. I've managed to hit 19 on my Wiz and 13 on crafting..but uh..I am CLUELESS about a few things. If someone could help me I'd really appreciate it!

1) Where in the HECK do I update my spells? And how do I do it? Omg...up until like level 16 I thought that the spells auto updated. Up until 16...I was using my level I spells!!! Once it dawned on me that I need to update the old ones..and that only the new ones show up...I have been all over creation trying to find a vendor I can buy them from. I can find a few on the broker..but isn't there a vendor I can go to to buy them? Where is he? I went to the mage tower in SQ...but his spells only go up to apprentice II? Help please...for the love of god I am sooo tired of not being able to do any damage. I have plenty of money as I've been harvesting/crafting/selling...I just can't find where to buy the stupid things other than the broker and most of my spells arent listed there.

2) Can someone explain PvP to me? I came from a PVP WOW server, so I am way used to PVP and I love it...but for the last 10 or so levels I can go ANYWHERE without getting ganked. I am on the Vox server, and people on there report that the "Bad" guys outnumber our side 3 to 1 and they all are bored and come over to gank. It is frustrating, but I can deal with it. But I'm curious as to how the PVP works. What are the rewards? I did figure out that they get to loot 1/2 of your money...but other than that what do they get if they kill lots of the "other" side?

3) Why the heck does the "ground shake" under my feet every so often?

4) Where is the best place for me to level/get quests at 19? It seems all my quests are either green or 4-5 levels above me...should I now move from Anatonica into Thunder Steppes? If not there - where should I go to level?

5) What is Guild Status? Is that the same things as Guild Level? I have figured out that if I do certain quests my guild gets status...does that just mean that I've earned us xp?

6) I seem to die alot. I love the wizard, but holy cow, I die like every 32 seconds - some of the "bad side" players can seriously kill me in one hit. I'm dead before I even know they were there. Not a big deal but I was thinking that perhaps I should try a character with a little more meat on his bones so that I can learn the game before I venture into this class. Would you agree or disagree with that idea?

7) Along those same lines, any ideas on how to up my armor. I have heard don't spend tons on armor until you are in the 30s...but there's gotta be something better than this level 5-10 crap that I'm wearing. Should I just buy some off the broker? Any other ideas where I could try?

I think thats about it right now, but have no fear...I'll come up with more questions before this thread is over! I do LOVE the game..but it is much harder than WOW. There is definately alot less hand holding and it's taken me 19 levels just to figure out the basics and I still feel like I know nothing!

Message Edited by MadelineRay on 10-14-2006 01:51 PM

As for upgrading from App I to App II and so forth, usually you'll be buying from the broker. NPC merchants will sell App II scrolls, but no higher. All higher upgrades of spells are gotten by either looting it from a creature, or from a crafter making it.

2) Can someone explain PvP to me? It happens when someone completes the quest for the Prophet of Brell Serilis in Antonica outside of Blackburrow

4) Where is the best place for me to level/get quests at 19? It seems all my quests are either green or 4-5 levels above me...should I now move from Anatonica into Thunder Steppes? If not there - where should I go to level? At this point, you'll be wanting to hunt in either the extreme eastern end of Antonica, or begin to make your way into the Thundering Steppes. The Steppes are designed for characters levels 20-30

5) What is Guild Status? Is that the same things as Guild Level? I have figured out that if I do certain quests my guild gets status...does that just mean that I've earned us xp?By completing those quests, you earn your guild exp and earn yourself personal status. This status allows you to buy things from either the City Merchants (if your guild is a high enough level) or from the merchants tied to the factions in the city (if you have a high enough faction amount with that group.) For instance, the mage tower in Qeynos is headquarters of the Concordium, the local mage's guild. By doing those quests (called writs) that they offer, you will rise in their regard and the merchant on the ground floor will eventually offer you some mage-themed house items and titles.

6) I seem to die alot. Would you agree or disagree with that idea?I don't know about PvP, but in normal PvE combat, the key to survival is root. Root, root, root. They can't kill you if they can't reach you. And if they can't kill you, you can burn them down in short order.

7) Along those same lines, any ideas on how to up my armor. Any other ideas where I could try?At level 20, you'll be able to get what are called Armor Quests. When you level, go to the Eldar Grove and look for Gildas Cedartree, he's out front of the monk dojo. You will need a group for parts of these quests, but this armor will definately see you through the 20s when you finish.

I think thats about it right now, but have no fear...I'll come up with more questions before this thread is over! I do LOVE the game..but it is much harder than WOW. Wizards take a bit to get used to. It may be wise to try a PvE server to learn the game before plunging in. But if you stay on the server remember to stay /anon.

Thanks for much for the help. I took your tips and spent most of the day yesterday earning some money, organizing my spells, and buying new armor.

Finally, I was able to figure out how to get everything updated. I was really feeling like a [Removed for Content] there for a bit....feels much better to be up to speed.

My one thing I am still trying to master is the PVP. Oddly enough, I would have started on a non PVP server so that I could learn the game, but somehow without realizing it I started on one. For the first 15 levels, I just thought every server was this way. It wasn't until I created a second character that I realized that my server has PVP next to its name. Heh. Oh well. I DO like PVP because after you level up, you still have stuff to do (i.e. run around and kill people). I think I am mastering game mechanics, but right now, I can't quite get the hang of PVP. I'm still trying to figure out how to keep the enemy OFF of me. Usually they are invisible...the run up to me and the kill me in 1-2 shots. Usually before I even know they are there. One guy last night hit me for 758 damage in one hit. Holy cow..how am I supposed to defend against that as a cloth wearing wizard? Yikes! I know I need to root them but its like whew..they rush and before I can get the root off they're wailing on me and I'm seeing stars. I also have a problem targeting them in the heat of battle. Anyone else who plays a Wiz or other cloth wearer in PVP?

Oh and its good to know to keep the anon filter on - LOTS of people have it on the PVP server...I was wonderng why they did that and now I know

Message Edited by MadelineRay on 10-16-2006 08:31 AM
