<DIV>My first EQ2 char (on release) is a wizard, only made it to level 16 before I quit.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When i came back I rolled on a new server for friends, and play a necro and a bruiser. soloing both is very easy (well the necro sucked until I got Ad3 pet).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What is the trick on wizards? I mean when soloing grouped non heroics? I have at least Ad1 root (cant afford Ad3 on that server) and it breaks in 5 seconds even on GREEN mobs. The group then proceeds to waste me <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>How do you guys do it? What spells are the most important to Ad3 or master? I need help because compared to the bruiser and necro, the wizard is hard as hell to solo.</DIV>

Wizard is very easy to solo, especially the higher level you get. Early on, the roots have a very short duration, and you don't have a group root which makes it a little more difficult.Really, the trick is to root/nuke. If you're having difficulty fighting group mobs, take it easy on them till you get your group root.As far as what to get ad3, I always went with my big DD's and my big AE dot. Everything else i did ad1, until I got to T7 that is.Also, invest in heal potions, so when things turn bad you can hit one, then run like a mad [Removed for Content].<div></div>

<DIV>Thanks.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So it seems like my best bet would be to get an AD3 root. What level does the AOE root come?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Currently what I do is try to look for 1 solo or maybe group of 2, root 1, root 2nd and nuke it until dead then go kill first one. It works but root doesnt last long at all and the area required to do this sometimes leads to adds (if there are roamers I didnt kill first and run near 1). If there are 3 mobs in the group, it pretty much means I cant do it <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Whereas with my bruiser (level 36) I simply run right into a group of even level or maybe yellow mobs, 2 or 3, doesnt matter I own them. My necro is slightly harder but not really with the AD3 pet he can usually tank 2-3 while I focus my dots on them.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I just wanted to see if this is normally so hard with a wizzard at my level (16).</DIV>

I'd just avoid the groups until you get Ring of Whatever somewhere around 42. Once you get that, you can group root them, then single root the mob you're going to nuke. DO NOT AOE or you'll have the whole group rushing you in no time. They recently nerfed root durations 50%, so you can only get a couple nukes off before you have to refresh them.

<P>wiz is the only class i've played in eq2 and i gotta admit it can be pretty easy if you are prepared to die a few times when things dont work, nothing is perfect after all. my friend plays a necro and we both started at the same time, i was always chasing him in terms of levels gained, but i can accept the fact he may be a better player than me too..</P> <P> </P> <P>im currently a 63 wiz and pretty much got to that by solo'ing until lvl 48 or so, and even now i solo a lot so it is possible..</P> <P> </P> <P>there is a fairly good starting guide that's been sticky'd on the wiz section but you can modify it once you work out how YOU prefer to hunt. the principles are like was said above, root/nuke and avoid dps if you use root. </P> <P>when you're hunting group mobs, find who the toughest in the mob is, take them out first! if there are 2 dangerous enemy's, group root, kill the toughest, single root the next toughest, kill the easy mobs with your smaller attacks/dps while your nukes refresh then take the rooted enemy on again.</P> <P> </P> <P>thats a bare bones general idea because its hard to be precise with so many different encounter's out there.. </P> <P> </P> <P> </P> <P>good luck!</P><p>Message Edited by Trunkman on <span class=date_text>09-11-2006</span> <span class=time_text>11:02 PM</span>

<div></div>First thing is to pick your mob carefully, Fighter or scout mobs will tend to be no problem, however any casting type will prove tobe tricky. you can tell if a mob is a melee or casting class by looking at the buffs, or good old trial and error. With melee mobs, its easy, just stand somewhere safe so you wont get adds, root, nuke till dead keeping the mob rooted.Caster mobs prove to be a bit trickier, however mostly theres some way of doing them. For example, one strategy i use sometimes is if you root the caster mob, then move around a corner, he wont be able to see you to cast, so you can pop out, use your Stun+Dmg spell, and stifle to do as much damage as you can, then pop back around the corner before the mob can begin casting a spell, just keep it rooted. That applies to heroics or solo mobs, but with heroics its going to be a longer fight obviously and you'll need to make sure youre going to be safe from adds throughout it, aswell as having sufficient gear/spell upgrades.Remember to use your HP>PWR moves throughout the longer fights, so you dont run out at a crucial moment..A major element with the harder mobs is patience, take your time and dont rush, only attacking when youre sure of success (eg attacking when you just used your root, if the root you just applied breaks youre not going to have any way of stopping the mob because it'll be on the recast timer, so dont attack untill your root is ready for use again) and you'll get on ok <span>:smileyvery-happy:</span><div></div><p>Message Edited by NightSDtrider on <span class=date_text>09-13-2006</span> <span class=time_text>01:21 AM</span>

<DIV>also you can Root then Hex reroot Debuff(cant rember the level ) root HO start root finish HO.... dont DOT NEVER DOT unless your ready to pay teh mender costs if you cant root again fast enough. Now at level 70 I us a AGI hex and INT hex agi is for teh snare and teh INT for teh Magical De-Mit. and I have also 3 root based spells. Shackle ( this teh Chain lookng one) Another that looks liek a big [Removed for Content] hammer and Ring of *... crap cant remeber my spell names that I have. Now Note at 70 I have Ice Nova that gives a knock back ( hehe think of it as you just tripped your big brother down the front porch steps ... he on his [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] and you got chance to do what your doing( root again or run ) but dont stand their like duh). and Surging Tempest .. this one fun to duel with when it lands... constant knock down every 6 seconds use this one after I have mob half way down. </DIV> <DIV>Oh and dont forget the rooting root you can get from your plant. so you can eventually end up with 3 roots a 1 time root and 2 knock downs and a snare wich make it duable to do even Cons heroic depending on your gear.... me I will try any mob once <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </DIV>

<P>Here is a secret...</P> <P>HARVEST RARES</P> <P>:smileytongue:</P> <P>Taking your time to harvest your rares will allow you get the gear and spell materials needed to withstand hits, soloing or otherwise. the rares you don't use you should sell. good way to make money on a new character or as a noob. unless you have a group to farm named mobs with, you arent going to have any money to get good gear and be uber!</P> <P>it is basically simple when soloing as a wizard. root and nuke, like everyone says.</P> <P>Personally i will root, use my cold debuff/DoT, DoT the hell out of the mob, then (pay attention, this is key) use my HO's(heroic opportunities). just because you have uber damage as a nuker does not mean you should ignore the HO.</P>

DoTs are horrible to use if you're trying to root. Every tick of the DoT has a chance to break the root. For the measly damage they do compared to your nuke, it's not worth risking a broken root.<div></div>
<DIV>At 16-19ish I was in Antonica just north of the Qeynos Gates soloing the grouped klickniks all over. They come in groups of 3-5. I would cast damage shield on myself, then pull the group with my group AoE, follow up with Conflagration, and if they weren't all dead by then, repeat. Great fun!! At 20 or thereabouts you can move to the groups of calthorsis zombies that are all along the north coast east of the Calthorsis Ruins, or zone into the Splitpaw terraporters (you don't need the Splitpaw adventure pack to do this) in Thundering Steppes to have some gnoll groups instantly scaled to your level. Just damage shield yourself, then AoE your heart out. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

Hmm, no-one said the obvious - High Resists. The higher your resists are, the easier it is to solo a wizard - none of my spells will stick on you.

<DIV>The trick to root-nuke is that you really need to stand as far away from the mob as possible. If you stand at the max casting range, you will be able to recast root before the mob reaches you. Wizzy root has a snare component upon termination which gives you the extra few seconds to reroot the mob if you are stangding at max range.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Forget about soloing multiple mob encounters. Instead, stick to soloing single blue ^^^ heroics. There are spots all over the place with a steady flow of single heroics (giants in steppes for example) that you can grind on rather efficiently. You will be able to burn them down in about a minute each, and they give between 1-3% exp per kill. You will run out of vitality quick, but the levels will zoom by.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Stck with the stuff meant for wizzies to kill and don't sweat the multi-mob encounters that give us so much grief.</DIV>

<DIV><FONT color=#ff3300>Above all else.... be patient!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff3300></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff3300>A wiz if played carefully can take on some powerful named. As people have already stated, a wiz becomes much easier to solo at higher levels. Root, hex, root, nuke, root.......... is the way to solo. Dont use any DOT's cause that increases the chance of breaking root, also before you nuke make sure your root is ready again to cast, so its nuke, root, wait....</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff3300>Upgrading your roots is very advisable, also make sure you are not neglecting your resists as ranged mobs will take you down fast otherwise. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff3300>Soloing groups of mobs is much harder as keeping all of them rooted is difficult, but against solo's a wiz is one of the games best soloers.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff3300></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff3300>Nato</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff3300>Level 70 Wiz</FONT></DIV>
