I am a fairly new wizard and have been getting used to spells etc. I am playing with the accord (when the target is hit I gain power) and the shield spell which does damage when the target is hit. They are supposed to proc fairly often (20% or so I think?) In any event, I put both on the main tank and watch combat logs. I'm just not seeing this getting triggered. We are fighting all sorts of critters in RoV, not spell casters (I know that won't proc the affect). Is it just not showing up in combat log? Just a REALLY bad run of luck? A thing I need to do to make it show up in combat log? Do other wizards use this?

My basis strategy is to cast the ice shield spell just as the MT pulls. Do other wizzies do this? Is it worth the time/power or only use on multi-mob encounters?

It's a bad run of luck. I actively put 2 no-timer proc buffs on the tank of our group (Phoenixblade, Anomalism) as well as nailing the tank with Iceshield when it cycles up. I see it proc in my combat logs quite a bit on all 3 spells. I think you're just running into a run of bad luck.

*Edit*

Forgot the other portion of your question...

Ice Shield is almost free damage for you. At Master 1, my Iceshield is proc'ing for about 1000-1200 per hit on a mob. Not too shabby for a fast cast, decent recast temp buff when you're already targeted on the tank anyway. It is great to use in all situations as far as i'm concerned.

Message Edited by SalBluee on 08-18-2006 09:44 AM

Cast it every second u can. For iIt's cast time it does mad dps ( 1s cast and 3k damage) and the fact that it is almost agro free.. and well yea the dps count for the wiz( but i could care less, dps is dps)

Sometime the tanks have higher lvl and avoidance on the mobs and it may not be used often.

It is one of the best spells we have.

yah ice shield is only good if the tank you are putting it on is actually getting hit...

:-

i see all too often this spell go to waste and not tick much damage if any at all due to mob being debuffed, weak sauce, or the tank just being a greedy loot [Removed for Content] who never gets hit by mobs

At least, that is the way I took the changes to fizzle.

putergod wrote:The mob should not be able to resist it at all, which is why we can fizzle on it. At least, that is the way I took the changes to fizzle.

The problem is that the spell you cast, Ice Shield, can fizzle because it seems to be viewed as a buff. The spell that actually affects the mob is Frost Spikes which, as a proc, cannot fizzle but can be resisted. A quick parse through part of last night's log in ACT shows Frost Spikes to have had 181 swings and 175 hits.My personal view is that fizzles should be removed from the game completely, they don't add anything beyond the chance that a heal might randomly fail several times in a row and possibly wipe the group/raid if the pRNG is in a streak.
