I know there are a ton of topics on this already, some conflicting since the LU24 change apparently...so I'm just looking for a bit of up-to-date advice. The wife and I have been playing for a couple months and now we're trying out a wizard-warlock duo combination. Our main's are a Monk/Warden where we can do grouped ^^ and ^^^ up fairly easily. We've created the alts for a change of pace and it's definitely requiring a different playstyle. We've died quite a few times already but it definitely fills the change we were looking for. This leads me to my question. Most of the recommendations I've read for this duo talk about root and nuke while many say don't use DOTs. Do we just avoid any spells that put a DOT on them altogether? I'm playing the Wiz and we only started last night so we're level 10 currently and it seems that the majority of our spells put some type of DOT on the mob. So is it really just..root, cast a nuke..wait for either to refresh and go again?

Message Edited by wcsoft on 08-17-2006 01:46 PM

when using roots, any DoT is bad idea. This is because whenever that DoT ticks, it has a chance to break the root. Basically yes, as you said just root and use direct damage spells only and wait for refresh. Of course if you're killing solo stuff or groups of mobs, you can use the encounter aoes and just burn them down before they get a chance to do any real damage.

O double dots def a bad idea..

for the wiz upgrade ur int buff and for the warlock upgrade thier buff as well. Try to stager your roots. and cast at the same time, one cast nuke and other cast root

at the low lvl just make sur u have good gear.. its ur alt and you can afford..
You may want to get a summoner... instead if u really want to go only u 2..

There's only one DoT I know of that I would consider for the root/nuke scenario: Surging Tempest (Wizard 5. It's a slow ticker (about 6s I think) and it applies knockdown on each tick. This is obviously far beyond your level at the moment but perhaps it lends weight to the "Don't DoT" argument in general.Since you're only level 10, you may wish to consider a Wizard/Warden duo. Wardens use root/nuke too and theirs break less than ours but they still have decent DPS for a priest. Might be too close to your original pairing :smileyindifferent:
