Was wondering if freehand trickers with procs, because they changed it so the procs lands before the spell so it wouldn't break mezzes for the chanters. It would just suck with all the new proc items trickering on freehand instead of the spell, because the procs do go up in damage when you cast freehand. And does the same goes for catalyst?

The procs always says on a succesfull hostil spell this SPELL has a ()% chance to CAST bla bla bla, so i would guess it does tricker but i am not sure.

Message Edited by Josaine on 08-10-2006 02:07 PM

I never saw hose proc taking freehand (or catalyst)The only spell that does, as far as I know, is SURGE, but it is well known for that and you have to take it into account and time nicely when you want to use freehand if a surge is running.

Interesting information, useful to know, thanks.

Slightly different question so sorry for hijacking the thread, I know the first AA into Freehand Sorcery increases the next spell's damage by 16% I assume it then scales the more points you put in it ?

However many if not most wizs choose to maximize brainstorm over freehand as a 1 percent damage incease in all spells is better than a 2 percent increase in 1 spell per minute.

rtwitty

Thanks for that, I have been trying to decide which AA route to take, so generally speaking how many points do people invest into Freehand ? And forgive my lack of knowledge but at work at the moment, which line is brainstorm ? and did I read right that maxed it gives 1% more damage on all spells or is this per AA point (up to what as a max ?)

Sorry for all the questions, and for slight off topic.

Brainstorm is 1 pct for each aa point you invest in it, but you will have to put 4 points in ward of sages a nice little regenerating ward before you get to brainstorm. My wiz is set up for max damage as I normally have a pally amends for group/raiding: Str is 4,4,8(11.7% chance to critical),8(catalyst guaranteeed critical 1 minute timer) Wis 4,5(freehand 24% damage multiplier 1 minute timer),4,8 (brainstorm 8% passive damage increase).Combining catalyst and freehand results in an ice nova (adept3) that is always over 10k and often over 13k.The other line that is popular based on forum discussions is the Agi line which speeds up casting and if you have sufficient power may even put out more damage than Str.There are some great threads discussing AAs below. IMO Wisdom is the line all should choose then your personal play style should dictate the other line(s)Edit note: correct a typo Duffus lvl 70 Wiz Duufuss lvl 70 PallyEverfrost

Message Edited by rtwitty on 08-11-2006 02:22 PM

Thanks rtwitty,

That was exactly the info I was after. I respecced my AA points at the weekend from INT into WIS and although I have taken a small hit to INT (as well as loosing secondary slot). through gear changes I have nearly made up the defecit, my spell dmg is still around the same as it was before, apart from when I use Freehand Sorcery of course :smileywink:

I also find the little ward we get useful if for nothing else than health regen out of combat (only got 1 point in it at the moment).

Just got to read some more I guess and decide upon STR or AGI for the other line.

last time I remember freehand sorcery will get eaten up by casting frigid gift.

I assume catalyst will too, now that is annoying.

catalyst does not eat freehand as far as I know : when you cast freehand, catalyst, fusion, the freehand icon is still up when fusion explodes.if you cast freehand and surge takes it, icon is deleted.if surge takes freehand and catalyst, you see no icon.. and no crit on 3d spell ; but surge crits.. nice if catalyst were eating freehand, I would go agility.

Message Edited by ailees on 08-20-2006 12:58 AM
