<DIV>Recently, I got a few friends interested in trying out EQ2. After only a few days, they were all in their 20's so I dusted off my alchemist (who was also a level 24 wizard) to group with them. My wizard was purchased on the Exchange so I had no idea how to play one. I purchased the toon because he was a high level alchemist.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now that I have grouped with my friends and played a wizard, I'm really interested in developing this character. I think I have the basics covered - basically keep the mob rooted and blast it to smithereens. In a group, I keep iceshield on the MT and wait before unloading the big fireball. I also use the wizzy stuns and ghetto mez when the situation calls for it. I can solo up to blue ^^^ heroics (non casters) as long as they are single.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What I can't seem to figure out is how to deal with multi-mob encounters. Specifically, I can't seem to overcome the Harclave Trial or the Arena in Splitpaw. In Harclaves, I can't survive the last encounter by the chair, and in the arena I can't make it past the three mobs before the Champion.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My wizard is level 28 now.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Can anyone share their tactics for handling multi-mob encounters? My one root doesn't last very long. My one stun doesn't last long either. Two-mob encounters are very challenging, and three+ are nearly impossible. I've read a few messages in this forum about an AoE root, but I don't have that spell yet.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Any help would be appreciated.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

the more mobs you have, the more difficult it is ! I just don't fight when more than 2 mobs... if they ain't grey.I prefer an heroic warrior !and the worse think is just 5 solo mobs, even green, coming to you because they are social.<div></div>

<P>In your 40s you get an aoe root that makes it easier.</P>

Harclave's is easy if you use your AE spells and Iceshield.
<DIV>If the mobs are grouped and have down arrows, you can generally handle them easily as follows:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1. cast Coldshield on yourself.</DIV> <DIV>2. pull them with your Chilling Wind group AoE</DIV> <DIV>3. cast Lightning Flas</DIV> <DIV>4. cast Pyre</DIV> <DIV>5. repeat from #1 until all dead</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This works particularly well in Harclave, since with the healing buff on you, you should be fine unless you get multiple groups together.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If the mobs are not grouped, but they are social (ie, will come help a friend you attack) then you can reduce the number of 'friends' they bring by what is called 'body pulling'. That means you physically get close enough that one of them (and preferably only one of them) will see you and come attack. Then back off, letting it follow you, and start fighting once it's away from the others. As long as you don't actually attack it within range of its friends, they shouldn't join.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If the mobs don't have down arrows but you can't avoid getting several, this is where it gets harder. I would generally root one, then try to deal with the other, while re-rooting the first one regularly. This is probably the most difficult type of fight for a wizard, so I avoid it if possible. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>On the threesome in the arena, that is a hard one for wizards, definitely.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I would generally root the dwarf first - he's a fighter, and if he can't touch you, he can't hurt you, so just park him out of the way and deal with the others.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The gnome is a wizard also, so I tried to take her out first. Ideally, I could root the dwarf as they approached in the tunnel, then target the gnome while the root was casting and queue up a stun then a nuke. Then basically just go all out trying to kill off the gnome and the dark elf (she's a healer) before they kill you, recasting root on the fighter if you need to. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If your spells and equipment aren't good, you'll certainly notice the difference here. You could purchase some Essence of Health potions from your local alchemist and perhaps some that will increase your resistance to magic, this may help you resist the gnome's nukes. Also check that all your equipment has INT on it and is rated level 20 or higher, you're not getting as much benefit if you're wearing older armour, and gear that doesn't have INT on it is just a waste for wizards.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hope that helps!</DIV><p>Message Edited by Didi on <span class=date_text>07-10-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:30 PM</span>

<P>I think I will wait until I get the AoE root before going in there again. I just can't last long enough nor can I kill them fast enough.</P> <P>Although, now that I've gotten better soloing, all I can say is O-M-G. For the first time since I've been playing this game, I have run out of vitality from just soloing. I find myself feasting on blue ^^^ heroics nonstop, getting 2% per kill every minute or so, and filling my bags with loot. Jeebus, wizzies are sick.</P>
