I have been away for some time from EQ2 and came back 2 weeks ago. At the moment I am doing a lot of soloing and got 2 levels (including getting Piercing Icicles). Now, my problem is handling the HOs, that is: handling the quite common red star. I have problems with the red star, because Piercing Icicles which is in every other aspect an update to Icy Coil is also a strike spell like our  dd line of spells. Sure, I could use Icy Coil and finish the HO, but then I do about 200 + 170 (not sure about the exact numbers at the moment). On the other hand I could cast BoF another time, doing around 600 or more. So most of the time it is more effective to let the HO time out. The same situation is in pickup groups when I started a HO and noone else furthers it. What are you doing in this situation; am I overlooking something very obvious? Thanks in advance <div></div>

Well, we also have the debuff called Chilling wind, which is the Star symbol.  And usually if you are going into enough trouble to finish the AOE HO, the encounter has multipal mobs, thus makign Chilling wind even more useful.

But using a aeo on a single mob is a bit of a waste of mana, isn't? <div></div>

well when its not a group encounter, i usually don't bother with the red star at all...that or i use icy coil if i need to debuff at that point anyway. <div></div>

You can use any of your stuns to finish the HO as well.  I tend to use Icy Coil because its quick, it debuffs, and casts a really good dot. <div></div>
