From my perspective it looks like they are giving us more DPS(finally decent AOE)

And it looks like we are going to be a massive DPS machine with the right spell rotation

on single target MOB enhancing our usefullness to groups and raids.

Any thoughts?

I like the sound of it so far and especially the decent AOE at last. Icy Wind Adept 3 or master 1 seems to be the spell to go for now if it hits for over 500 a tick and you can target 5 mobs or so you have something that will out damage ice comet by the sounds of it. So far I think the revamp sounds pretty fair to wizards and we should be much more effective against multiple enemies now rather than doing ROC, icy wind, ice cometing one and slowly burning the rest with immolation and Ball of flames. My only wish is they dont make old spells useless. I would still like to be able to use freeze and blazing intimidation but have it so the root only effects enemies below the current levels stated, I cant see a problem with this happening but I doubt it will. If grey spells become useless then theres going to be a lot of [Removed for Content] wizards casting the same three spells over and over.

Well, they have given us DPS, so yay!

But they have taken away(partially) our buffs and debuffs.

Roots have been both nerfed and buffed(in a way) :1

Our soloing capability was sacrificed somewhat in the name of group and raid usefulness. Perhaps they are moving to a more group based game?(/cheer Sony)

Seeing as how I am a 50 sage and 49 wizard, I do have it a bit easier upgrading my spells. I have withheld making any changes to this point so that I can give app IV spells testing.

Here is my plan after I make sure no spells get changed anymore:

Icy Wind - man this has to be a no-brainer. I guess I could make one for myself and post the differnces. But, then I can no longer test with the app IV. Also, I fear they will reduce the effectiveness of this spell before going live.

Ice Comet - 5k damage, need I say more. I do have this one ready, just need 30% more xp.

Paralyze - 1k damage and stun - yeah time to upgrade this bad boy. I use it quite often.

Ball of Flames - already had this one. It was and is a solid spell until Ice Comet cometh.

Immolation - still does decent damage as a gap filler and I have had this as adept 3 for a while. It is faster cast and recast then before (2 and 6 second).

Jury is out on these.

ROC - I am tempted to update to Adept 3 to see how effective it is. My guess is I would be wasting my rare.

Piercing Icicles - I had this at Adept 3 prior to the changes. This one I would love to have my rare back.

So, I have 3 rares left to make spells with and 2 spells I will make. Yeah, I need to harvest more.

I decided to roll up a test toon to see what I could learn. I've only brought it up to 8 so far. Here's what I've noticed: For low levels at least, Magi's Shielding kicks [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]. Gives you a ward, +5 to defense, more hit points, more physical resists, etc. It's kinda weird having 4 concentration slots taken up though, between it and Gift of the Magi. The lack of spell scaling kinda sucks. I'll try to explain why: I got lightning burst on the Isle of Refuge at the beginning as normal. At Apprentice 1 it does something like 16-22 damage (in the description anyway). I worked up crafting as well and managed to make myself an Apprentice III of the spell. Description shows 20-28 damage now. Well, at level 7 or 8 (not sure as I double dinged after citizenship) I received Lightning Shock, which was a slightly upgraded version of the burst spell, and on its description it does 23-31 damage at Apprentice 1. This sounds better, right? I was excited thinking I had 2 damage spells I could alternate, instead of having to wait for recast time. Wrong. Since they are in the same line, they are on the same timer. Also, the new spell takes 8 power instead of 4, for a whopping 3 more damage on average. I figured I'd go ahead and just use Lightning Burst since it was practically equivalent to the new spell, and only used half the power. Well, here is where the no-scaling comes in. Instead of doing the listed 20-28 damage I was doing more like 15-22 damage, and this was against blue/white con solo mobs at level 8. I assume this is due to higher resists on the higher level mobs. The combination of the mobs higher resists and more HP (than on the isle) means that using this spell is now pretty much useless, even though I just spent plenty of time and effort to upgrade it (and making spells with no inventory room, no durability tradeskill abilities, and skill not catching up with leveling speed is time-consuming and expensive). It seems pointless to upgrade spells at lower levels, because you level quick, and the time and/or money you spent upgrading them will be wasted. Combine this with the fact that the broker on the test server had no spells and next to no harvests. It wasn't a very fun time. I'm going to try and work it a little higher, to see what other new spells we get. I hope Blaze is on a separate timer than ice spike, sheesh.
