View Full Version : "When target is struck" statement in procs of Fabled items

I just got my first VLA Fabled armor item and it has the "when target is struck" statement for the proc that I have seen on a number of Fabled items. Being excited to finally get a Fabled armor item I went to the Feerrott test area and since it only has a 4% chance to take effect it took a number of beating sections with my wand to actually see it work. I followed this by rooting many test lizards and hit them with low level DD and DoT spells to see if this will activate the proc but had no luck in these endeavors. Are these type of procs totally useless to chanters just like the "on a successful attack" type seen on the prismatic rod?

To answer my own question I discovered the Cryptic Metallic Robe has the same 'slip' proc as my new gloves. This problem with these procs has been mentioned before: Please fix the Cryptic Metallic Robe in next patch Does anyone know if this problem has gotten any attention from SOE in the upcoming revamp?
Message Edited by Kaltara on 08-04-2005 03:47 PM

Yeah it's a big issue with VLA fabled loot. Anyone who has levelled a mage past lvl 6, will know that they cannot take hits, and once you get past level 30 or so, you will realise you can't melee mobs either, because mage melee skills are capped. Yet here we have VLA, that only procs when you get hit, or when you hit something with melee. It is painfully obvious then that the devs either all only play melee classes, or they just don't have the resources to devote to making mage specific armour. That certainly doesn't inspire much confidence about whats going to happen with the combat revamp.

This is taken from the latest test server notes:

Mages and Priests now gain 5 points per level in their offensive melee skills.

All I can say is WHAT THE? How is this going to be useful for a mage, apart from us actually being able to hit mobs. But why would we even want to? There is no way we can survive standing toe to toe meleeing a mob, so it's a pretty pointless change. Though I guess it's a quick fix for getting procs to go off on fabled gear. Too bad it's not a practical change and it once again shows that SOE have no idea of what playing a mage class means.

Mage procs for extra damage from weapons should really be based off casting spells, not melee combat.Maybe they are lifting the cap on melee skills, or raising them some so we do have a chance. It's still wankers to have it though. Give us stuff that is clearly mage, with procs that work in conjunction with our natural abilities.

I'm a Barbarian wizard, and I like to mix it up a little bit. All the pre-release hype about combat in EQ2 even led me to believe this was at least viable, what with no more sitting down in combat and statements like: "No more sitting back, a wizard can and should participate in melee" (paraphrased from memory, but statements like these were made).

Heck, I still sneak in behind mobs and swing away with my cedar wand, even though my chances to hit are nil. Sure, in a raid situation, I stay way back and provide artilery, but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to help out my group any way I can.
