I have played Star Wars Galaxies for over a year now, and have had a Jedi for quite some time. I started Playing EQ2 a couple of months ago for times when the Jedi grind started to get to me. Well recently SWG recieved a massive Combat Upgrade, and prior to the CU Jedi was a powerful class and a force to be reconed with. well now it just plain sucks. I mean they've really messed the whole game up, and its to the point where I'm ready to just quit, so I came back to EQ2 as a Wizzard, to find that this profession has undergone similar changes and everyone has pinned their hope on the coming ballance. Well, don't get your hopes up. SOE has a knack for @#%$ing things up royally, so dont be supprised when we end up in worse shape then when we started.

I don't necessarily think the OP is trolling. I think this is a very real concern to anyone who played SWG and is now playing EQ2. I played SWG for a while before the CU but the main reason I quit was that they kept promising this big combat balancing on the horizon and it just never seemed to come. I don't know how long it actually took from when they first announced it but i'm pretty sure it was over a year. That's what i'm most concerned about. We keep hearing soon soon soon but I've heard that from SOE before. I'm still having fun playing EQ2 though where I was getting burned out on SWG at the time so I have no plans to quit anytime soon. I do think there is cause for concern though.

Isabelle

46 wizard Permafrost

I come back to EQ2 everyone once in a while to see whats changed.

This last time, I stayed for almost a week before I just got terribly bored, realized I had nothing to look forward to, and realized that my wizard was still an unarmour warrior with a magic sword.

I will not be satisfied until my wizard "feels" like a wizard. Right now, it feels like SOE has a generic combat model that the "snap" a class template on top of. This perfectly "balanced" world is boring and homoginized.

I wind up playing SWG most of the time. Why? We'll, the combat is more fun. I can go into space when I get bored of the ground game. I can PvP when I get bored of space and the ground game.

SWG certainly lacks "raiding" but years of experience have shown me that "raiding" as an endgame is no less of a timesink as PvP as an endgame. Everyone spends countless hours trying to "keep up with the Jones' ". The new power obtained with gear obtained through hours of raiding becomes the "baseline" required to fight the next level mob.

I actually like raiding from the point of view of acting as a large group to take down a big target. Thats actually alot of fun. The "raid to keep up" mentality is flawed IMO though.

I also hated the fact that I could take my swordman to the geocaves .. buff him with my Dr Alt .. put on a macro and go watch TV .. he'd auto kill and auto loot everything.. including bugging the spawn to have insane amounts of genosians around him.. 1.8 Million XP in an hour.. travel to the force village.. rinse and repeat. that and JTLS killed it for me.. all improvements were baed around that.. they ignored the ground game.

This captures exactly how I feel. I just came back after taking a break with WoW and City of Heroes. I think SOE has overdone the 'class balance' to the point that nothing feel's right.

This is what happens when you try and put everything in a perfect balance. Things jsut look the same after awhile.
