Hi, Are any level 40 wizards having any luck in splitpaw? I'm talking about the very first zone you get to when you click on the gnoll teleporters in TS. Is this zone meant to be soloable? I'm getting destroyed by the groups of 4 mobs - even the level 40s. I'm getting interrupted a lot. I tried Al'Kabor chains and frozen manacles to keep some distance, but it isn't helping. AEs are too slow. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lydel Oasis <div></div>

at 40 it's kinda tough, i'd use tether and FM on the melee types and burn the casters down with single target DD's, then try to keep the melees away however possible.  If you're like all the other wizzies I know, you prolly have atm ball of flames, WIS, and if you have bloodlines I should hope you have Ice Flame.  All three of those should be enough to take out casters, I could take out a caster at 40 in 2 hits almost all the time.  Granted those were lizardmen in Feerrott, the gnolls might take a bit more but not much, your roots should be good enough to keep 2 of the mobs away, if you're getting 4 mobs stun one so FM can refresh and then root that one.  Take out the pet casters first and ignore the pets, they're usually tank type pets so they can't hurt you that much.  That's all I can think of, hope it helps. <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>*edit* if you find yourself still having problems, wait a level or 2 til you get Ring of Cold, AE unbreakable 36 second root, more than enough time on that to get off all the ae's and still be able to nuke one or 2 of them.</DIV><p>Message Edited by uhhh on <span class=date_text>07-01-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:51 PM</span>

<div></div><p>At lvl 40 it can be tough killing more than a group of two NPCs but you are close to getting Ring of Cold at lvl 41.6 and with this AoE root spell it will be easy to solo most of these zones.  Most of the groups are sitting in close proximity so this spell is really nice and it’s like shooting ducks in a barrel.  Since the only DD that we get past lvl 40 is Ice Comet, I use mostly the same spells as you would.</p>

<span><blockquote><hr>  *edit* if you find yourself still having problems, wait a level or 2 til you get Ring of Cold, AE unbreakable 36 second root, more than enough time on that to get off all the ae's and still be able to nuke one or 2 of them.<hr></blockquote> Yah... RoC is definately the key to effectively soloing these new Splitpaw instances. However - NEVER mistake "unbreakable" for "unresistable". LOL. Because it ain't.  RoC is resisted more often than I care to mention. And when it is resisted - keep in mind that you now have ALL FOUR angry yellow cons bent on  your disembowelment - not just 1.  Good luck managing  those while you wait for it to recharge. Also... I've noticed that on certain cycles there are mages with pet's - which normally wouldn't be a problem at all - but  you can see that they have purposely wedged the pet-class spawns back up under rocks - or entwined in spires - or on the far side of ledges. So I am CONTANTLY getting the "Cannot see target" message - while my RoC timer ticks away to nothing. When you can't see 'em - you can't stifle or stun 'em either - so - they commence to chain-nuking the BEJEZUS outta you. Nice that I can't see them to land a nuke or a stifle or a stun - but - miraculously the mobs aren't having any problems landing on me. What's the word I'm lookin' for here? Yah... CHEESY covers it. Also in Split-paw I've noticed a handful of 'encounters' of 4 mobs where they have 3 of the mobs together and 1 mob WAY off to the side - out of range of AE roots - yet STILL agro-connected. An OBVIOUS attempt to thwart RoC and Bony Grasp. Cheesy indeed. That having been said - I've successfully soloed to completion the entire first area - uhm... "Delving into Darkness" - and I'm working on the "Upper Tunnels" at the moment and not having a lot of problems. I'm quite sure I couldn't do it without RoC.  I'm also sure that even with RoC I'll need some muscle to help with the ^^ yellow plants I see wandering here and there. -GB-   </span><div></div>

At 30 I cleared this zone solo... Does this mean im looking forward to a big drop in soloing power over the next few levels?  or does the cave not scale well?

I don't know if this how its suppose to work but in the caves if theres a group of 4 and you kill one then call for help and run, when you come back to kill them there is only 3 left.  I did this to a few of the rougher groups...  Same thing if you die what ever you killed stays dead and you can go get your shard and take your revenge on the remaining group.

And for once they've got a very reasonable balance. It's difficult - to be sure - but not so difficult as to be INSANE. It's solo-able - but not so easy that you don't have to be on your toes. If you get complacent - or let your guard down - you WILL pay the price. Nice balance of challenge / reward. Go in duo or with a group - and the dynamic changes dramaticaly - as it should. -GB- </span><div></div>

So now that I have Ring of Cold, Splitpaw is completely different. It's as though pre-RoC and post-RoC wizards are different classes. It's not trivial - I still have to plan, take care of roamers, look out for groups that are too spread out, but now I can get to the Den with confidence and not be turned back on the first group in the first zone (the pre-order one). It isn't enough to linearly "scale" up the zone when there are discontinuities in the class progression. I think a level 40 wizard is going to find it very hard whereas a 41.6 wizard will find it much more straight forward. Lydel 42 Wizard. <div></div>
