View Full Version : Constant Interruptions

<DIV>Okay.. there may not be an answer for this, but I figured I'd ask the more experienced wizards out there.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My character is a 26th Wizard, and I typically only fight with my wife, a 26th Templar. Usually we have no problems. The problems come when the bad guys decide to kill the wizard (which is quite often if I use my AoE spells). My wife can keep me alive, that's not a problem, the problem is that it seems 3 out of 4 casts are getting interrupted. Is there any stat.. item.. anything I can do about this? I understand the purpose of interruptions, but I'm hoping there's some way to counter it, like a "Battle casting" ability or something, that gives the wizard enough focus to ignore a hit or two while finishing a spell.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I don't use the /ooc channels... I don't ask for groups.. I'm a pure RPer, so suggesting I look for a "tank" (geez I hate that term) is not an option. If there's no way around the interruptions, I'll just have to deal with it as I have been so far.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks in advance!</DIV>

I don't know of any way around this. Unfortunately this makes things quite difficult. If I'm careful, I can solo an orange or even an occasional red or ^^ green, but I'm lucky to solo a group of 3 greens or even 3 green 1-downs because they constantly interrupt me. Most of the time its only for about 15-50 damage, but when you can't cast and 3 mobs are constantly hitting you for 15-50 damage, you can get whittled down to nothing pretty quick with our paper armor. <div></div>

Try using roots more. Freeze (even when it si grey) is an excellent short term root that lets you get a longer cast time nuke off with out being interupted. I use tether to hold one, frozen manacles to hold the other, then freeze and nuke the third. It is tuff though. Start off with an AoE DoT so that it wears down the rooted NPC's while you kill the first one. <div></div>

Get used to this. Eventually we're going to lose Parry altogether. <div></div>

<P>simple, </P> <P> </P> <P>dont start nuking for at least 20 seconds, that will give the healer enough agro to tank the mobs.</P> <P>wizards aren't tanks by any means. if your pulling agro and getting interrupted, then dont nuke so much and nuke much later in the fight.</P> <P>once you learn the line between agro and non agro your killing will go much faster. and in the higher lvls you would die, your wife cant keep you alive fighting heroics at 30+</P> <p>Message Edited by IllusiveThoughts on <span class=date_text>06-15-2005</span> <span class=time_text>09:15 AM</span>

This is a perfect example of why wizards "need" groups, they need someone for damage, the interruption is killer and the damage you do can't occur if it doesn't cast right? well, the way i look at it, use what the other guy says, and root a hell of a lot more, and DoT the rooted, while nuking the antagonist...Jacques

I gotta agree with the other posters, I"m a lvl 37 wiz, and often team up with my brother (36 inq). We let him tank, as his avoidance is over double mine. I usually let him pull, cast a nuke, then I start my DOT's, (icy coul, plasmatic pulse, and scorching pulse) Then I go nuke happy (Ball of fire, Ball of Flames, etc) usually works, by then if I do draw agro, it goes down quickly anyways Same trick for groups of monsters, he pulls, I do 3-4 AOE's, then start picking them off. By this time, each creature is pretty weak. During this time, his job is just to keep himself alive, and I do the killing <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> For tough mobs, I'll tether one, frozen manacles a 2nd, and then we nuke the 3rd Just gotta work as a team, and know the strengths and weaknesses of each class. <div></div>

I've tried the Tether one, Frozen Manacles the next, and then take on the third, but often times you can't finish casting frozen manacles before the other two mobs are on you. If you do manage to get the first two mobs rooted you still have to hope the third doesn't stifle or interrupt you. I usually try stunning and stifling the third until another root is available. Depending on the con of these mobs, this is viable, but if the roots break on either of the first two, or especially both, before the third mob is dead, you are in for a load of trouble. <div></div>
