I saw some discussion about spell tactics and I was hoping someone could explain further. I can understand canceling a DoT if you are gonna use tether (next hit breaks it) but why would you cancel a debuff? Does the decrease in enemy mitigation remain after it is cancelled? For that matter why would you cancel anything except a D0T that would break a root? Thanx Smog of Everfrost

Because all of our debuffs have a DOT attached to them. There's no such thing as just a debuff in our spell lineup. Our DOTs WILL break our roots with the exception of Ring of Cold.

Thanx, so is it true we get the initial advantage of the debuff and don't lose that when we cancel it? I am wondering because I usually just open with a nuke to get their attention, then root them as they run towards me.

No. Once you cancel a debuff per the icon on your maintained spell list, the debuff and the Dot are cancelled. The debuff/dot only works while it is maintained.

A note on cancelling debuffs and roots breaking. I've found that the dot effect rarely breaks frozen manacles, although it will often break it when it first lands. So when doing solo mobs, I will often get their attention with a debuff, land frozen manacles and follow up with immolation. Over 90% of the time I can also land BoF to start my HO, needing only one nuke to finish the mob off while it comes to hit on me. If I didn't use the debuff, I would have to go through at least one more nuke, sometimes two.

While it isn't nearly as safe as Ring of Cold, it's a strategy that can be used while waiting for Ring of Cold to refresh while doing solo writs, or to clear out a roamer before pulling a group. (While doing the splitpaw preorder, say).

True Tarkadal.

However, when I am pulling writs in Lavastorm to kill Magma Worms, I instead use this for the solo's

Truss
Piercing Icicles
Ice Comet
Ball of Flames

Thats enough to kill one worm.

The reason I use Truss is because when it breaks, it casts Tether. I use Truss ALOT for soloing because of this safety root that it casts.
