You mean the broken ones that look like the ones in EQ1? They've been that way forever...I'm not up on my lore, so I have no idea if fixing them is supposed to be in the story at all. ...I sure hope so =)

That would be cool! Another cool ability would be to levitate, so we can jump from high cliffs.

I've heard they are planning to have up to 100 levels (I've seen an older interview where the developer is talking about 200 levels), so I hope we will be getting many cool spells and fun spells as content is added to the game.

I was a wizard in EQ1, and teleporting was nice. We could get us or a group somewhere fast. The downside was that in the higher levels, we often got spells like area effect abscond, which teleported everyone back to thier bind spots. I was actually on a raid where the Leader forbidded anyone from teleporting out on thier own, simply so he could use the spell. For EQ2, I don't want teleport spells. I believe the broken spires are just for history point of view. If you reacitave them for wizards, then druids would get them too, as they had them also.It opens up to many issues about percieved value. In EQ1, trying to get somewhere like Kunark was a nightmare without ports, till they put the books in that made ports completely useless, save a few places, like Plane of Hate. Currently, it takes everyone the same routes to get to the same places. The only advantage we have is evacs which can be used to move across a zone quicker. Really, teleporting would only take away from other things we need more.

Stavenham said

If you reacitave them for wizards, then druids would get them too, as they had them also.

With the zones connected in the convoluted way that they are - and Travel by Sea tickets priced at over 1/2 a gold - wizard porting would be a VERY good thing. And while I couldn't possibly disagree with Stavenham more about the usefulness of wizard porting - I have to concede that his worries about it (wizard porting) being used as a pacifier or a diversion from THE wizard issue are well founded. Sony has a long and glorious history of this, as anyone who played EQ1 will attest. One of single biggest problems I had with EQ1 was it's insistence that no class be allowed to have a truly unique ability. If you take each classes "claim to fame" and examine it closely - wizard porting, cleric healing, shammy buffing, ranger tracking, necro dots, mage pets, etc. etc. - you'd find that it was also given away to another class so that they could have it too. This absolutely ruined it for the other classes. They took every unique thing - and just... gave it away. This insured that no class could ever feel truly needed or unique. I, personally, found that horrifying. As a truly unique addition to a wizards abilities I would LOVE to see this. But not before they've addressed the current DPS and resist issues which are a priority to all wizards at the moment. And... frankly... not if they're going to give it away to the other class as well. I'm so tired of that crap I can't even begin to tell ya.

Ports might be fun but i don't miss the "Hey d00d can i get a port?" every 5 seconds, it amazed me the stupidy of some people wanting me to leave my group, travel to them and port them somwhere for little or no money. I don't know , maybe the game is different now.

-Delgomo IceBringer - Crushbone

I don't find 60 silver to be alot to get to other zones. Enchanted lands puts you right next to the Nek bell, Zek right next to the TS Bell. TS bells right next to the Feerrott bell, Everfrost next to the TS bell in Next.Only the Lavastorm bell requires you to run across the zone. Annoying but not hard to get to. Even if the nightbloods gaurding aren't grey, you can run past, or swim around them. And wizards would charge for thier ports, just like they did in EQ1. And there were always arguements against wizards getting anything more because the percieved value of being a wizard was the ability to earn money using natural abilities. Yes, i earne money as a wizard porting in EQ1. I didn't sit around advertising, but I would respond to shouts looking for wizards to port. Now, having said all that, maybe some kinds of ports wouldn't be bad. Personally I thought we should get a self evac earlier on. Clerics get the ability to send other back home, I can see wizards getting this.

Perhaps at the higher levels that's negligable - but certainly not at mine. I played a wizard exclusively in EQ1 - and - although I won't deny making a little money - I hardly got rich - or even ever really got ahead. The vast preponderance of wizards on my server had policy of not asking for money for a port - but not refusing it either. Anything that makes us more unique and useful is a good thing. As long as... as you stated - it's not a diversion from the current DPS/Resist debacle currently raging around the wizard class. Hell... I'd take "self only" ports to the other zones - in order to beat the .60 gold I'd have to shell out otherwise. Considering I port myself to/from my home zone on average of twice a session and play every night - that's almost 15g a week in boat-ride tickets alone. As I pointed out - sub-50 (and definately sub-40!) that's hardly trivial.

Money shouldn't be a consideration when designing any class.See, you say post 50, 60 silver is a big deal for you. And I believe you. However, I was spending 60 silver for traveling around level 35. Money is always a different issue for everyone. Some one could say 60 silver is a lot, with 10 plat in the bank. I never got rich porting, only a few times did anyone pay me over 100 gold for a port, and I ported like you, I took what they gave, I never set prices. Somtimes it was a few gold, and once it was 150 gold. And once, I was promised lots of gold, but invovled porting some guys 3 toons at certain the right times, to avoid aggro, while he cheated or something, and I told him, no thanks.Players will charge for ports. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but it will happen. Every other class will scream that it's unfair that we can make money off our spells without the risk of adventuring.Look at the stink people made over paladin horses and players that bought the Collectors Edition with the baby dragon you could later sell.

There were patch notes mentioning a new book about spires which is located in the SQ mage tower and the FP library.

I read the book, but it containted little real information and offered no quest. Outside of that, I know of no official mention of spires.

I think it would be nice if we started getting personal gate spells to the spires, perhaps have them quested in the 40's (level caps), but leave group gates till the >50 levels. You would have to quest the personal gate, but once you reached the appropriate level you could just buy the upgraded group version from a specific mage vendor.

At lower levels yes, 60s is a pain, but if you have access to any tier 5 harvesting zone, then 60 s should not be a problem. Not counting loot that I usually get, if I complete just one wholesaler task of harvesting something while I'm there at some point, I go back and get 1 gold and 98 silver. Even with no loot that easily pays the fair of 60s.
