I was just wondering what is everybody's techniques for soloing. I am lvl 47 and am able to take the lvl 49^^ mobs in EF pretty easily. Am sure i could take any level 50s but haven't seen any in an open spot big enough for me to kill. I root, then snare with my hex doll, then ring of cold, dot, nuke, and when ring wears, both the snare from it and my hex doll stack so i can easily run back and wait for ring to refresh or just reroot and wait. Usually only have to go through ring twice before the mob falls. This has been working pretty well for me and I would like to here any new tactics for soloing for xp and named. Have been able to take a 44 named in the halls before the leopard field and the 46 Bloodthirsty leopard in EF without much problems besides an add or two.

My techniques are the same as yours, except that I dont use a hex doll. I spam truss and frozen manacles while I wait for Ring of Cold to refresh. If i get resist on on the roots i use the stun to stope the mob a few secs to win time to reapply a root.

I am level 50 and Ice Comet really makes this a lot quicker. Since I got Efreeti boots in addition to my robe of the invoker, I no longer have problems maintaining mana. Without either of these a potion of clarity comes in very handy if you run out of power.

The giants outside solusek entrance are good lvl 50 solo targets, but keep your distance because of their range attacks.

Nagul

Yes - dont remeber how much per tick but its on par with what the boots or robe gives but only during a short duration, so its really for when you run out of power.

Nagul, 50 wiz / 49 alchy

RoC (everything i use is adept 3 not sure if it helps much, but none of these are master 1)

Piercing Icicles

Icy Wind (yes i love debuffing)

Immolation

Start HO

Ball Of Flames,

Ice Comet (End HO here or...)

Ball of Fire ( or here)

(about now i have time either for Ball of flames or if timer is to close to running out on RoC) then...

Frozen Manacles

Truss

(meanwhile keeping my mouse click right over paralyze just incase both break/resist)

Then FM and Truss once more, unless its time for RoC, then RoC and rinse/repeat.

I cant emphasize enough how important it is to debuff (this is why i use solo debuff and group debuff even if its solo ^^ mob/named), yes it takes time, but the damage your nukes does skyrockets.

Using similar tactics throughout my wizzy leveling. At 46 i could solo defenders of Thyr outside of SE 50^^ (btw stand by the teleporter if your knew to soloing them, incase they resist you and u dont have time to stun, because they will 1 shot kill u) At 49 i solo'd agony /despair, and level 50 its trivial (havent tried since changes). Since 48 i could solo magus's, at 50 i farmed 100's of them( 3 master chests off them), now after the changes its harder, and i do die now and then

BTW i also use elixir of clarity(for mana) and elixir of vivacity (for health) if i need them. Against the magus's now they are a must have. I do have Cryptic boots (BoM) and prismatic for incombat mana, and idol of focus for out of combat mana, but thats all i have.

Hope this helps, i did almost all of my leveling soloing because xp was so much better.

I think when it comes to raid mobs, wizzys arent fun to play. The resistances/immunes on epic mobs are about 90% immune to cold and also have high resists for fire(bah!!!), warlocks dont have it that bad when it comes to immunes/resists on those mobs(very few).

I'm very unhappy with how much mana we use compared to warlocks (about double) and the amazing amount of aoe dps they get. (at level 50 they get devastation that can do +12,000 damage at adept 3, we get ice comet that does 3600 damage to only 1 target, uh uh...) Anyways when it comes to soloing we are probably the best at it. After these changes its much harder, and in some cases i think impossible (tried MM once after changes and got so sick of the resists i left).

Anyways i dont have much faith in the combat changes/spell changes that are coming, but hopefully SOE will make the changes that are needed to bring us back in line with warlocks (vs raid targets, vs mana usage, vs overall dps).

Message Edited by OneBadAlien on 07-01-2005 12:50 PM

Maybe someone should make a video of how this is done? I'm sure no one would be immature enough to use it as ammo for a nerf. But make sure to only record one without resists so it looks flawless (might take a while though).

Sarcasm aside, wizard and warlock techniques are nearly identical. Though, I have to say that killing solo mobs is actually faster xp and safer.

After the revamp, I'm sure heroic mobs will be back solely in the hands of fighter and priests again (much thanks to a video, a lot of crying, and then the realization that nearly half the classes could have done it anyway -- a little too late).

Message Edited by Splatterpunk28 on 07-01-2005 12:45 PM

But would it be immature? The game was originally designed that the double up mobs would take a group. After the combat changes, I would expect taking on Oranges and Reds to be difficult at best - double ups will probably be suicidal.

From what I have read, that is how they envision balancing all of the classes.
