<DIV>Is it normal to do less damage than the damage range given for a spell?  For example, if a spell says it will do 200-290 damage, should i still be hitting on the odd occasion for 180damage ?? I have never exceeded any damage range  but have seen myself on occasion hitting for less damage. I am a lvl 40 wiz and have noticed this with Ball of Flame and others.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Yes.  That damage listing when examining the spell is based on an 'average' mob at your level. If you are fighting mobs higher level, or ^^, or with unusual resists, then you'll do less damage. <div></div>

<DIV>I'm pretty sure it's the mobs resists that are making you hit below dmg range.</DIV>

Wrong. I have a Greyed out Master 1 DOT that is supposed to do damage from 70+ to 80+ per tick, but in actual fact, it does 100+ damage per tick even on red mobs without debuffs. Only direct damage spells will hit below damage specifications. <div></div>
