View Full Version : Anyone have a spell hit higher than the stated max?

I'm a level 34 wiz, and I'm wondering what caused my BoF to hit higher than max the other night fighting bears in EL. This is the first time I've noticed it. Is it maybe because mobs can be debuffed into the negs or something. It wasn't a huge amount, max dmg of my BoFire is 670 and I hit for 685, anyone see this before?

It's the debuffs... you generally won't see this kinda thing using only your own debuffs but if you are with a debuff complementing class you can easily exceed the listed maximum of your spell damage.

I see it all the time when grouped with warlocks, sure it's the same for wizards.

cool thanks, did not know you could exceed max dmg with debuffs.
Yup, different classes debuffs stack. Not sure who else gets fire/cold debuffs, maybe druids and conjurors? But as a Warlock grouping with a necro and a defiler/mystic can seriously boost my DPS

I've been seeing it a LOT at 40.Both of my primary DOTS do approximately 25% more damage than the stated maximum. Freezing Icicles says it should hit for about 54, its hitting for 76. Icy Coil is supposed to hit in the low-60's range, and it is pounding mobs for 87-89 points of damage a tick. Immolation is also doing this. Says it hits for about 384 maximum, and I have seen recurring hits of 440+.Not entirely sure what is causing this. May be a bug. Could be resists. If it is resists it is weird because stacking one DOT or two makes no difference. They still hit for about the same damage. Even if I use no DOTs, Immolation will hit for 440+, just not as often.I also thought maybe it was INT, so I got took off all my INT gear and the spells still performed the same.My only guess is that maybe it has something to do with the Disruption skill. We can buff this beyond its normal value. Could be that the spell descriptions are based off the natural disruption ability and with an extra 2-5 points of disruption we could a pretty huge bonus to damage. Not sure.I can't fathom a reason myself. Maybe its a stealth upgrade! If so, I'm not complaining
